Owner description: This mile-long stretch of road originally belonging to Route 66, now features shops, clubs and restaurants. Favorites include the Nat Ballroom, currently an antiques store, but a former stop for the Big Bands that passed through Amarillo, and the Golden Light Café, where the best hamburgers in town have been served for more than 50 years.

We tried to have breakfast here but could not find one single diner. There was a Philipino restaurant and alot of expensive antique shops. Just a bit disappointing.

After reading some of the reviews, it became clear that this stretch of Route 66 isn't well publicized in Amarillo. When I asked the clerk at the front desk of my hotel where this was located, he had no idea! And, the hotel is located within three miles of this "attraction". In any event, if you want to find it quickly...locate 6th Avenue SW. As you proceed on 6th Avenue west of downtown, you'll soon come across Georgia Avenue. The historic district starts at Georgia and continues to west on 6th Avenue SW. I was hoping to photograph a few nostalgic signs from the historic highway, but there really wasn't much to see.

I enjoyed going down the short stretch of Route 66 and visiting the Historic District that runs through amarillo. There are plenty of antique stores to browse through.

I wouldn't say that the Route 66 District is a booming area that everyone flocks to, but there are some fun restaurants and bars to go to, and I think everyone needs to visit this area at least once.
