Owner description: This mile-long stretch of road originally belonging to Route 66, now features shops, clubs and restaurants. Favorites include the Nat Ballroom, currently an antiques store, but a former stop for the Big Bands that passed through Amarillo, and the Golden Light Café, where the best hamburgers in town have been served for more than 50 years.

“Great antiques! Reasonable prices! Takes you back”

It is fun to go and remember "when". There are several neat places to eat. The stores are full of many treasures from yesteryear. A great place to find that "special something".

“Authentic”

The Route 66 district is nice to take a drive through and even park and walk the street for Amarillo local businesses.

“Antiques Abound”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

6th Street Antique mall has a great collection to browse through. Lots of western things there. There are several places you can shop. This is one of the few areas in Amarillo you can park and walk around a while. Real Food Cafe (I think) is new to the scene. They make really wonderful, fresh things. T's desserts are to die for!

“Route 66 is actually gone in Amarillo”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

All talk, no action. There is truly nothing left of Route 66 here in Amarillo. The area wants it to be Route 66, but it's just not.

“Really?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2012

More like Antiques Village than Route 66. Seriously, if you want to buy antiques (from the last 50 years, so don't get your hopes up too high) then this is the place to go. However, if you're after 1950s diners, gas stations and Route 66 memorabilia stores, stay away - you will otherwise be sorely disappointed. There are many better stretches of Route 66 to visit.
