We stayed here for one nite on our way to Terlingua and the Big Bend parks. Based on Tripadvisor reviews, we expected just what we got: A clean, comfortable, cheap room that's barely been updated for at least 30 years. Both the staff who checked us in the evening we arrived (Sam), and the woman who checked us out the next morning were extremely helpful. Sam told us all the restaurant options open after 8:30 on a Friday night (not many), and the morning staff gave us recommendations (without our asking) of what to do in The Big Bend. The bed and bedding were perfectly comfy, the room a nice size, and everything clean. THe room even had extra towels and bathcloths in it. The bathroom counter area had been updated recently and was quite nice. THe room included a small fridge and a mircowave. For $55, can't beat it!
Oh, the train -- yes, the train came through twice in the middle of the night. I think it's a couple of blocks away. It woke us both times, but we had no trouble sleeping afterwards.More
