“Not bad but could be better.”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

Had premier room but it was run down. Torn curtain, bathroom floor tile missing. Bar staff and desk staff friendly. Others aloof and not all that happy to see customers. Next time I'll go to the new Hampton Inn in town. Too bad.

Room Tip: Check out the room before you pay too much for it.

Jim,
Thank you for your review and I am truly sorry that your experience here was a disappointment. We had discussed that curtain at breakfast and I had it replaced after your departure and I appreciate your bringing to my attention. I'd love the opportunity to win you back and you are welcome to call me directly at 432.837.2803 in order to express my sincerity.
Thank you,

Holland House Hotel is very clean, quaint and has all the amenities of modern hotels, but rooms are small. The train passes by the hotel every few hours. Ear plugs are provided. The room is so clean and fresh. Worthwhile to visit. They provide in-room, real glass glasses and china coffee mugs--really appreciated for travelers.

If you would like to experience living history in an elegant hotel setting then be sure to stay at the Holland Hotel. Beautifully restored features throughout highlight your stay. If you can splurge for the Jacuzzi Suite (at least for one night) to enjoy modern luxury in a southwest motif. The hotel staff provided excellent service during our entire 4-night stay. The breakfast nook featured locally baked goodies...be sure to try a the huge delicious cinnamon bun (and take one with you for that usually long drive ahead). Also take the time to explore the hotel lobby and all the history that is on display there. Complimentary billiard table is also available to pass the time. Plenty to see and do in Alpine as it is quickly becoming an artist destination. And the West Texas area offers spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Cna't wait to return there!

Thank you for being nice and not a meany with us. Thank you very much for a heartfelt review and the notes on the little touches we have tried to add from the billiards to our breakfast offerings. I sure hope you can make back in the future! Mark

Stayed 3 nights in Alpine, was a wonderful vacation.
Every one at the Holland Hotel was friendly, knowledgable and efficient.
Bartender knew how to make a Rob Roy!, Fireplace was lighted for us at the Patio on a beautiful Full Moon evening.
Walking distance to Sul Ross U, antique stores and galleries and plenty of restaurants.
Short driving distance to Fort Davis, Mc Donald Observatory and Marfa.
We will go back.

Last year we stayed here on our way to Big Bend National Park and I am sorry we only stayed one night! The rooms were beautiful and the service was excellent! I am just sorry we didn't stay longer. Lovely little town and great base to explore the region.

Great old hotel that has been nicely updated. Lobby is beautiful, rooms were nicely updated, comfortable and clean. Lots of public space downstairs, as well as an onsite restaurant and bar. Nice breakfast is offered in the morning. Alpine is a little over an hour to Big Bend NP, but with just a few hours there is a nice loop drive you can take for brief trip to the park. There is a train station across the street, but I did not notice any excessive noise, even though our room faced the main street.

What a wonderful historic hotel! The location is perfect in downtown Alpine. You can walk to the train station across the street (the trains did not wake us up) and to several restaurants including the well-known Reata, which we highly enjoyed. The public areas of the hotel are beautiful and I could have lingered in the comfortable and cozy sitting area for hours just to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the fireplace. Just outside the French doors is a lovely courtyard with tables and yet another fireplace. There is a very nice bar just inside the front door and also a business center where you have access to a computer if needed. Parking out on the side street was easy, convenient and free. The hotel is elegant in a casual way that is very comfortable. I even loved the room keys.....so fun! Our room was very nice, plenty of space, very clean and the mattress was very comfortable. There were nice toiletries in the bath. We stayed in room 317 and loved it, and enjoyed a great night's sleep. The hotel employees were all very nice and we received great customer service from all of them. They recommended visiting the Museum of the Bend at the college and it was definitely worthwhile. I heartily advocate staying at this hotel if you're anywhere close to this area just to experience the charm of this historic lodging. It's a treat!

Room Tip: I loved our room, number 317.....very spacious!
