We walked in thinking this was another restaurant, took one look at the setting and menu and decided to stay. A good decision. Steak hoagie was very good. Homemade chips. Epic fries were FANTASTIC. Very hot. Place has a limited "bar" menu but the quality -- at least what we had -- makes up for the lack of quantity. Seating arrangements are really nice -- from tables to lounge area to high bar seating. Something for everyone. Service was casual and friendly. We were quite satisfied with our visit. A really neat place we will remember next time we're in Alpine.

we drove to Alpine from Fort Davis for dinner one Friday night; followed the locals to this cozy bar, and ended up getting dinner there from their small plates, but very sophisticated line-up. headliner "epic fries" hangs out on the chalkboard menu with delicious entres-- PEI mussels, pozole, daily specials; lots of craft beers. original screened art on the walls, distressed chic furniture settles you in for the evening. kitchen staff/chef come with a culinary pedigree from the fancy Gage Hotel restaurant down the road in Marathon. This restaurant has found success in Alpine's emerging college town scene. we came back a week later, and just had a drink, snack.

We ate here our first night in Alpine. Good drinks and excellent food, with service on the slower side. The posole was amazing and the sliders were super good.
We had hoped to visit again on NYE and called to verify they'd be open, which they said they would be serving food all night. We waltzed down there around 8pm to grab dinner before ringing in the new year. They had a sign on their door that they encountered some construction delays. By that point, our plans for dinner were a bust because everywhere else was full and no longer taking reservations. Bummer, indeed.
We'd go back the next time we're out that way.

A very friendly bar with some good posole!. We went there at lunchtime when it was quiet. The Caesar salad tasted like something you'd be forced to buy at an airport terminal. But the posole had a lotta love in it: rich, flavorful and spicy broth with thick strands of shredded pork, corn hominy and fresh veggie accompaniments. The only thing I didn't get was the saltines served with it, but maybe that's a local custom I don't know about.
I'm a little worried about this place. We walked by on New Year's Eve and they were closed. That didn't feel right, so hope they are still in business.

A friend who lives in Alpine recommended the Saddle Club to us. Tapas in Texas? Well, it's a cute spot with a limited, but very nice selection of small plates. We had the steak sandwich special which they should add to the menu full time. Very nice service and our server was a busy guy, but he didn't neglect anyone. This is definitely be a place I'd return to again.
