Pistachio to remember. Only in Kathmandu have I had such luscious pistachio ice cream. They could expand their Mexican items to purchase- picado banners and toys and fun stuff.

In our search for local flavor, we visited Murphy Street on a Tuesday afternoon. Literally everything closed at 5:00 or was not open at all on Tuesdays. Hmm. On our way out of town on Wednesday, we decided to try again. Only this shop was open! There was a line for raspas or ice cream and one very patient shop keeper. We browsed the store and finally decided to wait in line for a sugary treat.

Here is what we found:

*Raspas or shaved ice/snow cones in tons of flavors. Hand scooped Blue Bell ice cream in giant waffle cones.
*Kitschy items from Mexico including colorful, unique oil cloth by the yard, painted tin ornaments, ceramic calavera knick knacks; Mexican candy. Bit too expensive so obviously intended for tourists
*Mexican inspired art work for sale
*great use of a space! plain wooden floors and shelves with painted accent walls, overall fun vibe
*plenty of outdoor seating, including a friendly dog, Rodeo

I love this kind of inventive use of space and materials. The street itself has a great mural and colorful photo opportunities. Not sure how anyone makes a living here! What is the secret?!??!

El Presidente! The best ice cream treat I've had in years. They have a wall of Mexican candy for sale, and gift shop.
