Review of Towne Crier Steakhouse - CLOSED

Towne Crier Steakhouse
Price range: $8 - $25
Description: Family owned steakhouse celebrating over 50 years! Well known for our chicken fried steak, hand cut steaks, hot fresh rolls with butter, and soup and salad bar. Yes a salad bar still exists in town! Towne Crier Steakhouse opened for business on February 18, 1966. The highest priced steak dinner was priced at $1.39! Neil Fry opened the restaurant and long time owner Dwight Aston started here in 1977. In 2017, Kyle Moore, an Abilene native, now manages and owns Towne Crier serving the same great favorites you love with some new additions that'll become new favorites too!

This place is dirty and needs new carpet and cleaning. I loved this place as a kid and it looks exactly like it did in the early 90's. The food is not consistent and you never know how it is going to taste. The owner needs to invest in his place.

When the hot rolls are best thing a restaurant serves you know there are weaknesses. The food is only basic but usually dependable. Prices are fair but not great.

This has always been well known for their chicken fried steak, salad bar, peel and eat shrimp and most definitely their hot rolls. But it also has a great breakfast. So go anytime you're hungry...you want be disappointed!

I always forget that I love this place. Glad I remembered this time around. Food was great, atmosphere, still the same.
