Food and service are excellent, but with hard surfaces everywhere, you can't hear yourself think, much less manage a conversation. It's a favorite for big families, birthday dinners, graduation parties, etc. and deserves all the patronage it gets. But if you want a quiet, romantic dinner, there are quieter places. Matter of fact, there are quieter Abuelo's Restaurants.

Abuelo's serves good food; my favorite are the fajitas. They also cater. The restaurant is noisy and always hopping!

Abuelo's is one of the best restaurants for the chicken medallions they serve. They are crispy medallions stuffed with chorizo served with rice or potatoes and beans. You get a small cup of queso cheese to dip your medallions.

The crust on the chicken is crunchy and delicious and it comes cut in to small pieces. I think they are a little big for a single bit, and cut mine in half. This is my prefered dish, but they have lots of good dishes to try.

I also like to get the layered dip as an appetizer. You get queso with beans, beef, tomato, guacamole and sour cream. It is wonderful, but I wish the chips were a little thicker. They are delicious, but trying to scoop with them is a bit difficult. You will have to use your fork to get some of this dip on your chip.

The kids menu is good too. Our kids like the queso, the chicken nuggest and fries.

If you want good chicken medallions, this is the place for you. Check it out in Abilene.

As far as Mexican cuisine goes, this place is average, as is the service (provided you have a large group which requires a big gratuity). The mahi mahi is the better choice, as there are few places here that serve it, and it is a big hit with me.

Lots of warmed thin chips to eat with 3 different dips. Guac was very good too!!! Dinner was outstanding and the margarita was smooth!! Sounds like we enjoyed this restaurant...and we did!! By the way....our friend had the filet and shrimp dinner and she said it was "over the top"!! Won't be disappointed!
