Holiday Inn Express Alcoa (Knoxville Airport)
Ranked #8 of 15 Hotels in Alcoa
Reviewed June 9, 2009

After going over and over in my mind where to stay we chose to stat at the HIE in Alcoa, due to being close to the airport, and to Gatlinburg. Upon our arrival to the hotel we got lost and had to call for directions. The young lady (Tiffany) who answered the phone gave us in-depth directions down to how many lights to go through to make it to the hotel. After driving for 7 hours and making it she greeted us with a great smile and a wonderful attitude. We've stayed at many of hotels and if they all could have one of her they would be great also. She told us about the hotel and all of the ammenities they had to offer including the great breakfast(cinnamon rolls). The little lady that was doing breakfast was very polite aswell. The housekeeping staff did a great job cleaning our rm on a daily basis. Speaking of rooms, this hotel has great beds and a choice of pillows to sleep on. Apon check-out the gentleman that was at the desk was also very nice. The staff definetly has great southern hospitality. And they made us feel like we were apart of their family from the time the reservation was made until we left the building. We would stay here again in the future and would recommend everyone to give this hotel a shot when traveling through or near Gatlingburg.

Nice rooms with lovely decor and comfy beds. The frontdesk was very helpful to me when locating a local Wal-mart. Great heated indoor pool that the kids enjoyed and exercise room. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly and from what I seen, all American so there was no language barrier when making requests. They also served breakfast and delivered USA Today.

Stayed here 7 nights for a business/leisure trip. I spent most of the time away from the hotel, just returning in the evening. My room was rather basic and not very large but nice. Bed was excellent, amenities nice. Clean and fairly quiet. The property seems to cater to both families and business travelers. The hotel had a pool and fitness room but I did not use either; they appeared to be adequate for the typical traveler. The free breakfast was well rounded: selection of cereals, pastries, juices, fruit, yogurt, biscuits and gravy, omelets. The staff kept it well stocked and clean. Hotel staff was friendly. There were two convenient computer kiosks for internet browsing and checking email.

One major positive about this property is its location. It's in a business park about 1-2 miles from the airport. There are two other hotels (Jameson Inn and Mainstay Suites), a couple of restaurants, and some corporate offices. Though it seems a little isolated, it's actually a good location because the other option in the vicinity of the airport is to stay in a hotel on the "Airport Motor Mile", which is a hideously developed strip of car dealerships, restaurants, fast food, heavy traffic, NOISE, etc. In contrast, this Holiday Inn Express is located in a relatively quiet area, though still very close to the airport and to malls, eating establishments, etc in neighboring Alcoa . The added bonus is that the Alcoa-Maryville greenbelt walkway system is just across the street. For a walker/jogger/cyclist, this is a great recreational feature right outside the hotel. For those with a car, the Great Smoky Mtns National Park is about 25 miles to the south.

We recently spent one night at the Holiday Inn Express in Alcoa, TN while in town for a funeral.
We did not make advance reservations, as we weren't really familiar with the area. When we stopped in to see if there was a room available for us, there was a long line to check-in. The lady at the desk told us that she did have rooms available for us, and when we mentioned that we were there for a funeral she was very nice and gave us the bereavement rate.
The hotel itself seems to be new and in nice condition. There is an indoor pool, which seemed to be a little small, and an exercise room.
The bathrooms were nice with big towels and a nice size shower and counter space. The beds seemed comfortable, and the sheets appeared and smelled clean.
We actually stayed in a Queen Suite because of limited availability and had a mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave and seperate sink all in our room.
The only problem that we incurred was when a family member accidentally spilled a drink when getting on the elevator. We notified the front desk, but when we came back to the hotel for the night, we noticed that the spill had still not been cleaned up.
The area is okay, not much to do, and I think most people staying at the hotel were passing through. There is an airport close by. There were also a couple of restaurants close by (one being the Atlanta Bread Company, and Hooters, the other.)
Overall, the hotel was nice, and if we ever have to stay in the area again, we would probably chose this hotel.
