I made a reservation for the Masters unfortunately due to a health condition it prevented me from traveling. Since it was within 30 days of the reservation they would not allow me to cancel the reservation and charged me $1221. They would not refund or comp me at another date. Basically I got charged $1221 and I didn't receive anything for it. They robbed me. The manager would not discuss but hid behind her corporate people who would not make a decision either.
We spent 4 nights at the Country Inn & Suites, Aiken, SC from Thursday, Oct 23rd to Monday, Oct. 27th, 2008. On arrival, the front desk staff person was pleasant and friendly, welcoming us to the hotel. Our room was located near the stairwell on the second floor, which was convenient. Apples and freshly baked cookies were available for your taking at the front desk.
The room had 2 queen beds, a microwave, mini fridge and bathroom with a long counter, which is very helpful. A coffee maker was located in the bathroom. The shower was great! Shampoo, bars of soap and hand lotion were provided.
Breakfast on weekdays was excellent in the variety of the offerings. On weekends it was skimpier, perhaps because a plethora of children accompanied adults at that time. It was difficult to get breakfast on the weekend mornings as the room was full. We sat in the lobby eating our breakfast on Sunday morning, until people had left the room.
The hotel has an outdoor pool, but the weather did not permit its use. There is a gym, business room with computer and printer, and free guest laundry, very handy on a longer trip.
We stayed 2 nights during the Masters Tournament. This was one of the best hotels ever!! We were only about 30 minutes from Augusta and the staff provided a map on the shortest route to take. Everything was very clean including the outdoor pool and hot tub. Breakfast was included. We definitely would stay there again!!!!
Stayed at the hotel while in Aiken for a Basketball tournament. The toilet was backed up the entire time as was the sink in the bathroom. Many other people staying at the same time also had problems with the toilets. When we left for the day we inadvertently left a jacket on the unmade bed and when we got back we found a note saying they would not make the bed because the jacket was left on it. The front desk said that was policy. In all my hotel experience, that is a first ! So if you stay don't leave anything on the bed if you want it made. Also, they did not pick up towels left on the side of the tub by the kids. While I didn't expect the Ritz, the basics were overlooked.
We stayed here 3 nights for a horse show. The property is relatively new, which is always a plus. The personnel were friendly and efficient. The wireless internet and TV worked as expected.
Although I just picked up a cup of coffee from the breakfast area, the hot food (grits, scrambled eggs and sausage) smelled good. The breakfast room was well-stocked and had lots of seating.
Room furnishings were new, if a little on the "cheap side". (Think flimsy plastic toilet seat.)
My only major constructive criticism: upgrade the bedding! In the past month, I've stayed at a Hampton Inn and a Holiday Inn Express, both of which had wonderful, new bedding. The sheets at this facility made one wonder how many burlap sacks had to be sewn together and bleached! I think the thread count was in the low double digits. After the upgraded bedding at our other recent hotel stays, this was disappointing.
We booked a night at the Country Inn/Aiken, SC after reading other reviews on tripadvisor.com. The property is relatively new but looks like it was constructed and opened yesterday. This was, by far, the cleanest property I have ever visited. The hotel had a ton of parking, was well lit, had security cameras all over the place, nice rooms, great showers, and a great breakfast. We had two adults and a three year old child and the suite worked perfectly. The breakfast had several different cereals, bacon, eggs, toast, sausage, make-your-own waffles, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, pastries, grits, oatmeal, juices, milk, coffees, etc. Check out time at noon was a plus too. There was a fully loaded business center with computers. The beds were comfortable and the place was extremely quiet. The staff was almost too nice. VERY nice place - I'm sold on their concept. Perfect for a quick night for a family function and I'm sure its great for the business traveler as well.
