We visited Old Economy Village for their children's day activities this spring. I've always seen the signs along the highway and wondered what the place was about. It does have beautiful gardens and can give you 1800s history (candle dipping, writing with a quill pen, etc.), but the religious communism aspect of the place is a bit distracting. We stumbled into a docent led tour of Father Rapp's house. The docent was awesome. The house was pretty average. The stories about Father Rapp's theology, etc. were very weird. Personally I'd rather visit the Depreciation Lands Museum or Meadowcroft for a taste of the same era.

All volunteers we encountered were super friendly and everything well maintained.

We visited the Old Economy Village on a beautiful Saturday morning in Spring. This is a very interesting story and many lessons to be learnt here. From the persecution of the Lutheran church in Germany this group of devout Christians found there way to this spot in Pennsylvania and built a better life for themselves, there only mistake being Celibacy! The visitor center gives you the history for the tour and is free. If you want to visit the buildings of these industrial group and have a tour the cost is $10.00 per person and well worth it. We took the tour and pleasantly we're the only 2 people so it was a personal tour and we got a lot out of it. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we asked some tricky questions that she answered. She also had a deep knowledge of the area and history. We thoroughly enjoyed the buildings, the history and the das story of what happens when you don't bring children in to this world.

Old Economy Village has a great welcome center that was built in the last 10 years. The tours of The Village are very informative and interesting for the whole family. The tour guides/dosins actually dress in period costume. We love it here; in fact one of our daughters had her wedding in the gardens 20 years ago.
