Visiting Altoona, PA, over the holidays, we checked out Champs Sports Grill next to our hotel so we could catch some New Year's Day bowl games. The food was delicious, starting with our appetizer, The Ultimate, a large frisbee-cut, breaded mozzarella slab. The salads were awesome and the New Yorker burger delicious. The micro-brew selection was extensive, and I loved the Widmer BRRR after trying the sampler. The selections of games on the TVs topped off a very enjoyable experience.

Simply the best Sports Bar in the area. We always enjoyed Champs in State College, and after moving to Altoona (about 40 miles away) we were thrilled to hear they were putting one here. Wonderful beer selection. Attentive, well trained staff, and great selection of food. Their nachos are simply the best you'll find anywhere. Lots of good sandwiches and other typical bar food, but some other selections that are unique. (Their oyster PO boy is to die for!). Portions are large, and they use quality ingredients.
One caveat. Their wings are great but you MUST ask to have them cooked extra. For whatever reason, and they must sell lots of wings, they don't cook them enough. Definitely try them, but ask to have them cooked crispy.

Ate here a few weeks ago and was craving the wings, but after today's visit, I won't be coming back for a long while! The wings today simply were not cooked enough. The skin was limp and soggy and the meat was still pink inside.
Ordered "The Salad" hoagie and it came out with 1/2" of mayo piled up under the meat & grilled onions on cold bread.
Have had a much better experience on prior visits. Only good thing to say was the server was friendly and the beer was cold.

We decided to check out Champs, and catch a Penguins game and have a drink. Bar tender was very friendly, and helpful even was able to try a few different beers at no charge. Interesting sports bar, a former Don Pabelos would defintly return. My family and I were there on a Friday night so there was even live music.

Great selection of beer with a great choice of seasonals. Went in expecting basic bar food but got surprised. Excellent ravioli and cheese steak. Homemade salad dressings. Only complaint was VERY loud music. But then it is a bar.
