For a relatively small city, Altoona, this museum is quite exceptional and sophisticated. It is very well-appointed with all things railroad.
Recreative scenes, photographs, memorabilia , etc. and the price is reasonable, especially for a family .

The Altoona Railroaders memorial Museum has something for Fans of Trains and History alike. Be sure to take in all three floors and the Outdoor Exhibits too. Don't miss the Turntable, and exhibits around it as well. I spent a couple of hours but could have easily spent more.

Went to the museum before heading to the horseshoe curve. A must see! Provided great details on how Altoona became the hub of railroading for Penn Railroad
The museum has various interactive / animated displays that take you back into time.

Also has a number of railroad cars outside and a working roundhouse where they are working on restorations

The price of the ticket also covers the curve!

This museum is dedicated to people who worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad, where and how they lived, and the tools they used. It is very light on engines and rolling stock as opposed to most railroad museums. There are some very nice, modern technology displays, and a lot of time and effort has gone into this place. Definitely worth a stop before or after Horseshoe Curve.
