From the moment we arrived, the staff at the Peerless made us welcome. We had a case of wine from Willamette and they let us store it in a first floor closet rather than lug it up to our room on the second floor.

Breakfasts at the Peerless were some of the best meals we had all week in Oregon. Fresh herbs from their backyard garden gave the delicious frittata local flavor and color. The courtyard dining area was delightful, shady and cool even during the dog days of July.

We would certainly recommend the Peerless Hotel.

Beautiful remolded hotel from the early 1900's. If you love authentic looking comfortable rooms you'll love the Peerless. Amazing breakfast was included in the rate as well! A few blocks from the main street of town, but worth the walk.

What a surprise! We did not expect it o be a small B&B and such a gem. The room we stayed (#1) was beyond belief, extremely well furnished and excellent decor including a large attractive mural next to the bed not to mention the high ceiling (15'?) with clouds and birds painted nicely. It was a memorable experience. The breakfast which was served outdoor was excellent, delivered from the Peerless Restaurant next door which we highly recommend.

The Peerless is a lovely little 'combo' of hotel and B&B - just what we were looking for. The place is lovingly restored, gorgeous, and our room - #3, a suite - was stunning. The historic preservation of this property was done the right way and that, plus a good location and an unobtrusive staff, made for a lovely stay. The location, like many in Ashland, is residential and about 3-4 blocks to shopping, dining, and Shakespeare, which made parking easy and walking around town ideal. This place is unique (in a good way) and the building itself is much nicer than other B&Bs in town. We liked it, and we'll be back in the future. Go for a suite if you can swing it - you'll love the extra space uncommon in a hotel of this size/vintage.

We stayed @ The Peerless Hotel in Ashland, Oregon for three nights during the month of June to celebrate our anniversary. It is a beautiful romantic historic hotel. As we were traveling with another couple, we booked two rooms, room #2 and suite #3 for ourselves. The rooms are nicley furnished with special and different appointments in each room. You can see a few of the rooms on their website. For instance, our suite had two side-by-side bathtubs, plus a shower, and a sitting room with a wood stove to enjoy our wine by (although in June you do not need to light the fireplace, and a separate bedroom). A newspaper is delivered each morning by 8:00am, and delicious fresh homemade breakfast is included, so please let them know if you have any special diet requests, or food allergies in advance. The coffee pot is on by 7:00am. And there is controllable cable music in each room (no TV, but who needs it!) You can sit in the garden or in the next door award winning Peerless Restaurant, where you must go for dinner (great music, fantastic food!). Catherina took very good care of us and made certain we lacked for nothing. Even a glass of port wine in the evening in the lobby. Owner, Christy and Catherina, are your charming hosts, and if you have any special requests, just let them know; it will be taken care of promptly. Windows all open up for fresh air and have room darkening shades and ceiling fans; the AC was running because it was hot during the day, so your room is nice and cool. Our bathrooms were quite large w/ special bath products and plenty of towels. We loved our stay and recommend you go. Frankly, we wish we could have stayed longer! Just a couple of dislikes: queen size beds (we like Kings), plastic chairs in the delightful garden. Be prepared there are lots of stairs, request a ground floor room if you need it. Otherwise, the place is absolutely "loverly", as is Ashland, and the Hotel looks just like it belongs there. Your Hosts will make you feel like you do too! Book today.

Ashland, Oregon is a lovely town which we visit frequently. This was our first stay at the Peerless Hotel as it is a little far from downtown, the Shakespeare Festival and wonderful shops. The hotel is nice and the room was fine, though the bed could have been firmer.

The bill for the dinner in the hotel restaurant the night before (which we enjoyed - good food, good service and lovely garden setting) was not at the front desk when we were ready to leave the next day and the manager told us that it would be automatically charged to our credit card. I explained to the manager that we had left a cash tip for the waiter and that we had asked that the meal charges only be charged to the room. The manager told me that they never charge an automatic gratuity to the meals at the restaurant and assured me that the only charge would be for the meal itself. The credit card bill, arriving a month later, speaks a different story with the addition of 15% added to the food costs...the waiter got a very large tip indeed.

Hidden costs in a hotel/restaurant that prides itself on caring for its guests are not acceptable, especially when we had been assured that there would be no hidden costs. There are too many nice places to stay and dine in Ashland that are better managed. We won't be staying at the Peerless Hotel again.

Our deepest apologies to our guests who had this experience. We do not apply an automatic gratuity to any of our restaurant bills. It is possible that a charge for some other item in the hotel was included in the credit card charge. We are sorry that this guest has not called us since we are happy to correct any mistakes made if it is brought to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to correct this error.

The Peerless Hotel, Ashland Oregon

May 31, 2007

My husband and I just returned from a delightful stay at the Peerless Hotel in Ashland Oregon. This hotel is intimate, peaceful, and very, very special. Located in the historic railroad district of Ashland the hotel is close to everything, but away from the busy and noisy main street. The Shakespeare Festival and downtown Ashland are both a leisurely 5-10 minute walk away through charming neighborhoods.

Like a bed and breakfast the Peerless serves a delicious complementary breakfast in their restaurant across the garden. One morning we were treated to crab cakes Benedict and another day we had pesto scrambled eggs with goat cheese and maple chicken sausage. Each meal is accompanied by artfully arranged fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. The restaurant serves dinner and is well worth a visit. There is an emphasis on locally produced foods and our waiters John and Amy took superb care of us.

The rooms (only 6) remind us of a small European inn with fine linens, well-appointed bathrooms, and Trompe L’oiel paintings on the walls. Several of the rooms are suites with separate sitting areas. Catherine, the Innkeeper and Sue, the Housekeeper take excellent care of their guests with extra touches such as Port in the lobby in the evening, coffee and tea available in the airy garden room, and Dagoba locally produced, organic chocolates and a short quotation (by Shakespeare, or others) on your pillow each day.

Because we are members of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, we visit Ashland at least once a year. We have stayed at other hotels and bed & breakfasts, but having found the Peerless Hotel with its first class service and atmosphere, I think we have found our home away from home in Ashland!
