“Comfy but mediocre”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

We don't recommend Tuscan Fish Stew. It's expensive and disappointing: Omar's has little seafood in a tasteless tomato broth without culinary interest. Attention should be paid to making it truly Tuscan perhaps doubling the quantity of seafood in the stew, with addition fennell or other carefully considered herb(s).
Our party of six was satisfied with the quality of the Grill's service, and appreciated the atmosphere: standard American diner/grill. But speaking of standards...standards have risen, even in the world of the good old-fashioned grill and bar. We expect better food and (in these tough economic times) reasonable prices. Omar's has a way to go.
Omar's is just "okay." No more.

Very fresh seafood selections, wonderful salad, delicious whole wheat homemade bread. Overall, excellent food. Atmosphere and decor are family friendly.

“Perfect spot for a martini and a burger”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Omar's sign was enough to pull us in, a cool "mid-century" roadside sign. The interior did not disappoint, a bar with some vinyl booths behind (we ate in the bar).

Cheeseburger with bacon was great, and $6-7. Buffalo wings were also very good. Good dive bar vibe, you should interpret this review through my filter of thinking bars like this are a great place to hang out and soak up the atmosphere. Even a nice plaque on the wall celebrating the induction of Fred Fozzard, until recently the wrestling coach at Southern Oregon University (in Ashland), into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

We did not eat at the sit down restaurant adjacent to the bar, as it was not open in the late afternoon, No matter, the bar menu was fine.

They also have a pretty good selection of craft beers.

“A flashback in atmosphere, quality and service!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Like the title says, this place is old fashioned - in a really good way. Local friends have been talking up this place for years and we finally had a chance to eat here. Our travel timing just allowed us to make it for lunch, but all that did was whet our appetites for a dinner time return. Our waiter was a real pro, none of that "Hi, my name is xxxxx", the atmosphere is old school, as befits its 1940s/50s heritage.

Everything was fresh and well prepared. I got a little extra spice added to my order during cooking and it really hit the spot for me.

“Oldie but a Goodie”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We took some friends from Central Oregon to Omar's while they were doing their Shakespeare visit. This is a funky old restaurant with 50's décor and darn good food. One of our friends wanted to try something different so she ordered Arctic Char-absolutely delicious. Her husband ordered the regular prime rib as opposed to the super size. Good thing because it was perfectly cooked and covered the plate. We ordered an old time favorite which was the "Toad in the Hole"-ground beef covered in brown gravy on top of a baked potato. I have since been back with a fishing friend and had one of the best burgers I have eaten in Southern Oregon in their quaint bar. We think this place is worth your visit.
