My wife spotted this place last year on our annual trip to the Shakespeare Festival. We didn't go last year, but went with six friends from the Bay Area this year. The soups are out of this world. The quail stuffed with foie gras was superb. Others had a pistachio crusted halibut which they described as superior. Desserts were all excellent. The decor is simple and the service efficient and friendly. All in all, this is a wonderful restaurant. We will be back.

Delicate to the palate. Scallops marvelous. Wine superb! Lemoncello desert out of this world. We have spent many years coming to Ashland and this was the very best dinner ever. We will be back! Outstanding!

We are locals. 20 years in Ashland. Well travelled and love dining out. That said, Coquina would be a standout anywhere. Proprietors Daniel and his wife Lynn (she is chef, Daniel is front of the house) offer an amazingly creative, incredibly tasty, beautifully presented selection of small plates and main courses. Always use the freshest local ingredients... The restaurant itself is small, tastefully contemporary without being cold, and has a nice outdoor seating area when the weather turns warm.
If you are going to visit Ashland, definitely seek out Coquina. A gem, for sure!

We'd been to Coquina a year earlier, and were a little nervous that we'd be disappointed the second time around. We couldn't have been more mistaken; if anything, the meal was more memorable than our first visit.

With our menus, Daniel brought a plate of focaccia, fragrant with herbs and fresh from the oven, and replenished it later as we dispatched it rather quickly. Our first course was their signature beet salad, and the symphony of flavors and textures (diced agrodolce beets, sautéed mushrooms with fennel and pancetta, gilded with truffle oil, and warm chèvre discs atop fennel jam) really grabbed our attention. Our grilled duck breast was deep red, skin seared to crispness, stacked with a single large raviolo filled with foie gras over a base of buttery sautéed spinach and cherry gastrique. A swatch of parsnip purée pooled on the plate beside it. All the flavors played off each other in different ways. Next, gnocchi Bolognese, tender and toothsome, and the sauce classic in its subtle marriage of beef, pork, carrot, onion, and celery, with a richness that doesn’t happen without hours of careful preparation. The generous amount of grated Parmigiano lent a smoky, earthy dimension to the dish. Chef Lynn is a genius at blending flavors and is obviously passionate about her work. She also willingly shared her secrets when we asked Daniel how various things were made.

We keep trying to get them to move to Portland so we can enjoy their talents more often. At least we know we have something to look forward to anytime we find our way to Ashland.

I really would like to love this restaurant as it's in our neighborhood, but it just
doesn't quite get things right. Food is good, but not particularly memorable, and given
the A list prices by Ashland standards, it should be better. The small bar in front is nice, but
the atmosphere is a bit odd for the space. Service is average. Most locals have complained about serving size and price, I haven't found this to be an issue, I just haven't found the food interesting
enough to draw me back.
