“How did we miss this before?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

Took my SOU kid here for dinner with his roommate. Neither of the kids had been here/heard of this place either. Not easy to find (upstairs along the creek near Lithia Park), but worth the search! We went here because of Tripadvisor recommendations and it was great! Service was very nice and atmosphere was surprisingly mellow and comfy as well. We ordered escargot for an appetizer (classic preparation done well), french onion soup and gathered greens salad, burger, pork chop on polenta special and the duck breast on sweet potato entree, My husband & I shared the duck breast and they had no problem with splitting it for us. Just a lovely meal.... Would go back in a second, but there are a few restaurants in Ashland that we haven't tried yet. Given the Chateaulin seems to be closed, this could be the "go to" place for us!

“Wonderful food, beautiful room, friendly service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

Larks is a refreshing addition to the restaurant scene in Ashland. It prepares traditional French dishes with considerable skill and thereby helps console diners for the closure of long-time local icon Chateaulin. The upper-story dining room has tasteful high-ceilinged decor. Service is friendly, informal, and attentive. Only the querulous could find fault with this place.

“Generally good food, poor service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

Most of the food was good, although the peach gelato had no flavor whatsoever -- it seems they left the peaches out. The waiter agreed to do separate checks, and our friends ordered a lot more than we did. Then he abruptly just split the bill, sticking it to us in the process. Surprise! He paid for it in his tip.

“Weak Start, Strong Finish”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

I wanted to rate this restaurant better but it got off to such a weak start that I could not. I purposely made a dinner reservation for their outside patio and deck the night before we went. We wanted to wait until after the theater rush so the reservation was at 7:45. When we arrived we were told by the hostess that we could sit anywhere on the patio. Unfortunately, "anywhere" was two or three very small tables butted up against a wall. The only acceptable table had not been bussed yet. I asked that it be bussed and was told they would be right on it. However, even though there was plenty of wait staff and bus help, nobody seemed to jump right on it. Instead, we were left standing and waiting for some time until they got on it. Eventually, we did get seated but, call me crazy, when I go to the trouble of making a reservation, I expect there to be a table waiting. Once seated, the service improved dramatically, drinks were served quickly and the rest of the meal was very good. My rib eye steak was cooked perfectly. My wife's duck breast was very good (although the cauliflower puree was a tad over-processed and runny). Excellent onion soup to start the meal. All in all, after the weak start, it was fine.
