“Generally good food, poor service”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Most of the food was good, although the peach gelato had no flavor whatsoever -- it seems they left the peaches out. The waiter agreed to do separate checks, and our friends ordered a lot more than we did. Then he abruptly just split the bill, sticking it to us in the process. Surprise! He paid for it in his tip.

“Weak Start, Strong Finish”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

I wanted to rate this restaurant better but it got off to such a weak start that I could not. I purposely made a dinner reservation for their outside patio and deck the night before we went. We wanted to wait until after the theater rush so the reservation was at 7:45. When we arrived we were told by the hostess that we could sit anywhere on the patio. Unfortunately, "anywhere" was two or three very small tables butted up against a wall. The only acceptable table had not been bussed yet. I asked that it be bussed and was told they would be right on it. However, even though there was plenty of wait staff and bus help, nobody seemed to jump right on it. Instead, we were left standing and waiting for some time until they got on it. Eventually, we did get seated but, call me crazy, when I go to the trouble of making a reservation, I expect there to be a table waiting. Once seated, the service improved dramatically, drinks were served quickly and the rest of the meal was very good. My rib eye steak was cooked perfectly. My wife's duck breast was very good (although the cauliflower puree was a tad over-processed and runny). Excellent onion soup to start the meal. All in all, after the weak start, it was fine.

“Disaster!”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

Very poor service; waited 20 mins for menus and server. Food was poorly prepared: hamburger ordered medium came raw, and the server told us that that was "medium" at the restaurant. Dining room staff poorly trained ( if trained at all); would not recommend this to a dog! Altho near the theaters, there are too many better choices in Ashland.

We were looking for a place to eat outdoors, and just happened to find The Loft. Boy were we lucky! The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. I highly recommend it.

“good burger and service”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

I like the outdoor seating on balcony above creek much better than inside, but food , drink, and service are consistently great.
