“An Oregon"must see!"”

What really sets this cottage apart from many you may have rented is that the owners have hand crafted and built every inch of the inside and outside. It is artistry and workmanship to the Nth degree! Go to the website Artycottage.com to take it all in. The cottage is in a wooded glen off a windy road. It's a great place to relax and just "be", and if you're going to the Shakespeare Festival, but don't want to stay in town - this is the place!

Margaret and Tom are warm hosts who respect your privacy, but welcome a visit to their workshop. We loved our stay.

“Very Peaceful and Beautiful - Inside and Out!”

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights and it was an amazingly satisfying experience. Located 15 min from Ashland up a winding road with nice vistas going to and from, it is set in a "bowl" that insulates it from sounds and views, providing incredible privacy. No barking dogs, no loud neighbors or traffic - just very peaceful and quiet. The air is also so clean that we slept better and longer than we normally do.

The cottage is outfitted with beautiful furniture and textile art crafted by the hosts and you can also purchase some items if you like. It is like staying in an art gallery but having all the conveniences of a well appointed home. There are so many thoughtful touches and we really felt at home, so much that we'd purchase this cottage in a hurry if it ever came on the market (unlikely).

Being without TV for 5 days was also refreshing although you have full WiFi connectivity (via satellite, somewhat slower than broadband via cable and also prone to weather outages as is any satellite-based communication or TV system).

It was a bit chilly in the evenings and we even had snow one evening (in mid-April!). The hosts provided ample firewood and resupplied us without us asking - very thoughtful. The fireplace heats up the whole house to the point it becomes "toasty" so no issues with keeping it warm.

Large kitchen area with all modern tools and very well equipped cabinets, utensil drawers and appliances. We recommend it highly to anybody visiting southern Oregon.

The location is very good for visiting the areas many wineries, Dagoba chocolate factory/shop, very nice restaurants and of course the theaters of Ashland, famous for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Finally, the cottage is located about 30 minutes from Medford/Rogue Valley Airport (code: MFR), with easy flights to Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, among others. We certainly hope to come back one day again!

“Unbelievably gorgeous!!”

I know everybody says we stayed in an amazing place but you have no idea what amazing really is until you've stayed at the Artycottage!! The owners have made every piece of gorgeous wood furniture and every beautiful quilt that is displayed. There's everything you need to make beautiful meals and serve it. You can enjoy it in the lovely porch or on the handmade table. If you love gorgeous surroundings this is the place to stay! The bed was so cozy and comfortable with a fantastic quilt. The weather was stunning and Artycottage stays cool with the wonderful ceiling fan. The nights are perfect so crack open the windows a bit. A wonderful shampoo and conditioner was provided and made my hair soft and shiny, even my husband loved it! We visited the owners wood shop and had the loveliest time. This husband and wife team are extremely talented! Your stay will be truly memorable I guarantee it!

“Wonderful place for a mini-retreat”

This is a great place if you want to get away from it all - literally, as there is no cell phone coverage and only limited Internet (Satellite with low limit for daily usage). I got a tremendous amount done on my writing project.

In fact, this is what the property would be ideal for: a retreat to get away from distractions and focus. You have the beauty of the hills just outside the window, and the creatively handcrafted, gorgeous furnishings inside.

But if you have any Skype chats or major client uploads planned, you'll need to go into town to a café. The other downside is that it's not a good place for children or messy people. You do have to take some extra care with countertops and furniture.

If you can work within those constraints, this is a wonderful, inspiring place to stay.

The home is located on the route to the Grizzly Peak trailhead, a popular hiking destination. If you are there, it's worth a trip. We didn't know it was so close, and we wished we had brought our boots and packs!

We saw a fox on our last day!

Management Response

If your cell phone doesn't work we have provided you with a land line. The cottage was a 5 year art project and was built to be used and appreciated with normal attention and care. We run 2 businesses off the internet so you have plenty of internet for everyday use.
