Owner description: You don't need to head to England to experience the genius of a Shakespearean play. Much closer to home is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival located in Ashland, Oregon. Every year at the end of October you can enjoy on average over ten of Shakespeare's plays performed in both classic and newly imagined style. Separate tickets are needed for each show which is held at one of the event campus's two indoor or one outdoor spaces.

“The play's the thing.”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

I saw The Tempest (my favorite Shakespeare play). It was well staged and interesting, but their Prospero was meh. It's really a shame because his character's transformation from vengeful to forgiving is the whole point of the play.

“fabulous theater”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

Totally professional, accomplished performers. Great set design, staging, music, acting etc. Noon time lectures and back stage tours were educational. They enhanced the enjoyment of the plays. It is great fun to meet the actors.

“Variable Quality”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

We saw three plays this year, after a hiatus of two years. One was fantastic, one was pretty good, and one was mediocre. I would avoid musicals here if you've seen the show already. Also, you might buy one ticket ahead of time, and then try rush tickets. We got into one she that was booked by getting a rush ticket, which also was much more reasonable. Disabled access is an issue, so I would be sure to call ahead of time if you are traveling with companions who have limited mobility.

“Great performances, questionable selection”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

Saw Richard III. The performances were very good. Dan Donahue was great as the lead. Seeing the play in an outside amphitheater was an authentic experience on a beautiful summer night. I am a theater enthusiast, and I thought this was a tough play as an audience member. Total time was 3 hours, and it isn't exactly an action-packed play. Got a little tough once darkness hit.

“Consistently excellent, in a magical setting”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

Well staged productions, always consistent, I go almost every year for the past 20 years. VERY well regarded productions in a magical environment. Ashland is gorgeous, and Lithia Park has something of Middle Earth about it. Great walking around town during the festival, with live music near the stages, and frequent actor sightings. Money and time well spent!
