Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Attraction details
Owner description: You don't need to head to England to experience the genius of a Shakespearean play. Much closer to home is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival located in Ashland, Oregon. Every year at the end of October you can enjoy on average over ten of Shakespeare's plays performed in both classic and newly imagined style. Separate tickets are needed for each show which is held at one of the event campus's two indoor or one outdoor spaces.

We've been going to OSF annually for over 20 years. No better theater anywhere in this country. Audiences are always respectful and well educated...including school kids!

A current-day version of this well known Shakespeare play, beautifully staged and acted. When your Shakespearean male lead arrives on a motorcycle, you know you're in for a new experience.

We attended three plays at OSF this year and enjoyed them all. My Fair Lady was a fun musical as a counter point to the Shakespearian play. Cymbaline was very well presented and very easy to follow the story line ( some reviews indicated this was a convoluted and hard to follow plot). The Heart of Robin Hood was a look at the legend from a different point of view. We enjoyed all three of these plays. September was a good time to visit Ashland. Cooler than the summer but no rain. Always love going to OSF. Don't forget to attend the Green Show prior to the evening performances.

This is a must do.Everything about this experience is exceptional. No one I know has ever been disappointed. We now make it an annual trip. It;s very affordable. And there are many places to have a lovely dinner after a play or an early dinner. We enjoy staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Wonderful, friendly service. Very clean rooms and a great breakfast that is free with your stay. If you do stay there, ask for a room on the third floor, facing west. At night you can see the mountains light up with the homes nestled in the forest, it;s lovely.Bring your unbrellas if you go in the fall! This festival does not meet your expectations.....it exceeds them!!!!

We saw My Fair Lady and The Taming of the Shrew during a month-long road trip in September, and thought both were just fair. We see a lot of professional theatre and a lot of Shakespeare and didn't feel that OSF lived up to the superlatives we had heard. Oh well, live and learn!
