Oregon Shakespeare Festival
Certificate of Excellence

Attraction details
Owner description: You don't need to head to England to experience the genius of a Shakespearean play. Much closer to home is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival located in Ashland, Oregon. Every year at the end of October you can enjoy on average over ten of Shakespeare's plays performed in both classic and newly imagined style. Separate tickets are needed for each show which is held at one of the event campus's two indoor or one outdoor spaces.

I cannot imagine ANYONE rating their experience here at OSF as anything but EXCELLENT! We have been attending on a regular basis for over 10 years and we have NEVER been disappointed. We usually attend twice -- spring and fall -- and see 8 to 10 of the available 11 or 12 plays. We are members and so perhaps enjoy some extra perks, like early tkt purchases and member lounge free beverages. But the plays... that's the story!

We cannot say we have loved every play we have seen. Sometimes the stories are not our taste. But we must say that they all have been wonderfully performed/staged/costumed, etc.

One must realize that the name OSF predates the current offerings. Less than half of the plays are "Shakespear" and those that are, are often done in very creative settings. A favorite was "A Comedy of Errors" done with excellent music, set in the American wild west of the mid-1800's. Another one was King John set around WWI. Or an art-deco setting, or a late 20th century setting! Very creative and, for my husband and me, an easier approach to hearing Shakespeare.

And OSF is not a "festival" that runs for a short time... they now offer plays from Feb throuh Oct or Nov!

And DO take the BACKSTAGE TOUR -- if you have not already done so.

The actors are indeed "repetory" -- the lead in one show might be in one or two others in a lesser role. I cannot imagine learing the lines for one show, let alone 2 or three. We tend to go for 3 or 4 days, see one or two shows a day during that time, with a "mandatory" visit to at least a fw of the local awesome wineries. We've even taken a day to ski Mt Ashland on one visit!

So much to do there -- enjoy!

The OSF is a great reason to visit Ashland. It's amazing such a quality theater exists in a tiny town like Ashland.

I have been coming to the OSF for 30 years and have always loved it. Some tickets are quite expensive, but you can often find a deal. The splurge is usually worth it, with fabulous acting and set design.

I can't say enough about OSF. I've seen numerous shows, and they have each been amazing. Such talented performers and very well run.
