Owner description: Shangri-La Resort & Conference Center is the ultimate escape destination. Strategically located at the tip of Monkey Island on northeastern Oklahoma’s beautiful Grand Lake, Shangri-La offers championship golf, boat and personal watercraft rentals, yacht charters, and parasailing. The 119-room resort hotel features indoor and outdoor dining, a waterfront bar & grill, an indoor pool, medical spa and fitness center, and a large resort pool with a splash pad and tanning ledges. For meetings and conferences, the hotel also contains approximately 8,000 square feet of divisible meeting space and a separate board room.

There are no longer any hotel rooms within the Shangri-La complex. Ownership of the Shangri-La Golf Club changed hands a few years ago, and the old hotel facility was torn down. A beautiful new clubhouse and restaurant was completed last year. But the hotel rooms are gone; just a championship gold course and great restaurant. The Worldmark timeshare facility is nearby.

We had a meeting with about 80 persons and we used Shangri-La as our meeting place and event caterer. Food was superb. Not just superb by Oklahoma or "lake" standards, but superb on a par with any destination resort. The Buffalo Bar is, well, just cool and very fun. Summit Restaurant is worth doing...and worth repeating just to try their multiple great dishes. Outdoors eating and bar areas gave great views of miles of lake. Our hospitality team seemingly could pull off just about anything. (How a about a boat tour of the lake for 50 people and a few coolers full of fresh margarita's and beer...with two hours notice? Yes they did that for us.) Of course, prices are also on par with destination resorts. If you have put on events, you know what I'm talking about. But you can manage that issue because staff is flexible in the BYO area and/or self-bartended thing outside the main facility. Ask. Also try their affiliates...we used Woodycrest Lodge. Wow. Imagine your own private Vail Ski lodge, but with a lake view...and lake access. Memorable meeting. Clean as a whistle. Great staff. Nice Marina for anything less than 60 foot vessel.

The newly renovated golf couse is definately a jewel. Multiple tee boxes afford a challenging experience no matter what your handicap is. From the island green to the waterfalls to the white sand traps, not only is this a great golf course, it a beatiful place to spend the day. The Summit Resturant is definately 5 star. Try the Sea Bass, it's incredible. The wine list is top notch and if it's lunch you are after, the buffalo burger in theBuffalo bar is one of the best I have had. The best part is there are nine more holes being built and should be ready for next years season. Can't wait.

My wife and I got away from the kiddos for a couple nights at the shangri la lodging. It's an older building run by Wyndham resorts. However the rooms have clearly been renovated recently and the pool area was very nice, with adult-only evening hours. Call Wyndham resorts 1-800 # to book a room (these are normally timeshares). The shangri la contact (Stephanie) doesn't return phone calls and leaves work early... And, yes, she is the ONLY shangri la employee who can book rooms. The room itself (we had a studio) was small, but adequate. It had full size frig, stove, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. A couch and nice size flat screen TV with lots of channels. There was a patio with a propane grill. Oh, and the room had a gas fireplace that turned on with the flip of a switch. Their fancy restaurant and golf club are not always open and I never saw a schedule of what days/hours they were open. Lots of other food options around including shangri la's marina bar/grill Joes and nearby restaurant The Landing. Both are on the water. I did not play the golf course but it looked amazing! It even has an island green. They are working on adding additional holes. If in the area I recommend a stay at shangri la in Anton OK (also known as Monkey Island). Lastly, note that they require a two night minimum. We stayed during the week and it was only $99/night. Shangri la's (ie Stephanie) list rate was $105, so again, contact Wyndham directly.

Having lived on or around Grand Lake all my life, our dinner last night at Shangri Lodge's new Summit Restaurant and Buffalo Bar convinced me this lovely resort will once again be THE destination resort in the near future. Offering golf, a marina on the lake, and the club house with world class dining presently, I believe it's ready to take the next step and offer accommodations that equal this phenomenal experience. Can't wait to watch it all unfold.

Upon arrival, we were struck by the grandeur of the entrance and immediately welcomed by Jason, the general manager. Once inside the doors and up the stairs, we were graciously greeted by the restaurant staff and immediately shown to our table in the Buffalo Bar, adjacent to the Summit, the more formal part of the restaurant complex. The Buffalo Bar has watch parties for various sporting events, so we came to watch the OKC Thunder. Their big screen TV's are placed around the area so each table has a good view. So far, so good!

Rachel was our server and immediately took our drink order, made sure we had water, and answered questions about the menu. Hubby wanted a beer and found out they have a huge selection. Stephen, a longtime friend, noticed us and came over to warmly welcome us for our first visit. He knows I am a wine drinker and noticed I hadn't ordered anything yet, so he brought me their extensive wine menu and made several suggestions. I chose the Pinot he suggested and it was perfect! We had studied the menu before coming so already knew what we were going to order, but listened as the specials were expertly explained to us in detail. We ordered the trio of tacos and the nachos, as planned, because we wanted "bar food" and basketball for our evening out. I must say, we got that and MUCH more!

The nachos were not your run of the mill nachos. Who knew a simple plate of nachos could become this delicious, crispy, complex flavored mound of goodness. Scrumptious! Rachel then placed our trio of tacos at our table and we were struck by how beautiful and inviting three "simple" tacos could be. Each taco had its own special salsa or sauce. Our favorite was the Wasabi, diced tuna taco with pineapple corn relish. I could have eaten a bowl of that relish! Hats off to Chef Brad.

We had planned to have dessert, but even though we split our meal, were too full. Stephen suggested we might take a dessert to go, but hubby was having none of it. In retrospect, we now wish we had. All in all, it was a fabulous evening. Our Thunder won, we ate delicious food, and were pampered by wonderful service. We're already planning our next visit...this time in the Summit dining room.
