Sunset Shores Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 1 Avon Lake B&B and Inns
Reviewed November 2, 2013

My husband and I recently stayed at this B & B for two nights as we were in the area attending a wedding. We are happy that we selected this place, right on Lake Erie, quiet, serene, beautiful.

Denny the owner and Chris, our host were very nice, accommodating, and offered lots of advice.

Breakfast was enjoyable with pastries, hot/cold cereals, fresh fruits, pancakes, and hot sausage or ham and more.

We visited Vermilion and had lunch at The Old Prague Restaurant. Loved the goulash and interesting beers.

We also ate at Jakes on the Lake-great place right in Avon Lake.

We felt comfortable staying here and really liked the sound of the waves.

Terrific weekend.

Room Tip: Second floor - all choices are good though.

We found this B&B as looking for a lake view, this is exactly what we got! The view is incredible and the house feels like being 'at home'. The owner Denny and his son Chris are great hosts, they left us to our own devices, which is what we wanted, The B&B is quaint and comfortable - not for people who want boring luxury hotels - but very much to our taste! The name of the B&B is very apt as you really can watch the sunset!! Loved it!! Would go again tomorrow!!

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are great!

This is on the shore of Lake Erie and has a great view. WE stayed in the third floor room and slept with the windows open to the sound of the waves. In the morning we drank our coffee overlooking the Lake. Our host was friendly and served a nice breakfast. This place is not fancy, but very comfortable and clean.

To be fair this was our second visit to this B&B, so we really knew what to expect. I do think that you should be aware that this is really just a room for rent, with a really beautiful view of the lake. We have not stayed for breakfast either time as it is not served until 9:00. If you want coffee earlier than 8 you must make it yourself. The breakfast appears to be bananas, bagel and heat up pancakes.

We are sorry to disappoint second time guests but it is really "unfair" to criticize breakfast if you have not tried it. We offer an "extended "continental with either hot sausage or ham, pastry, fruit cups, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and more. Not gourmet-- but enjoyable.and nutritional

We usually ask if 9 Am breakfast works for our guests and then adapt if there are special time schedules.

Most people are "ok" with making their own coffee if they want it early but we are sorry that it annoyed you.

Thanks for staying with us.--Your host

The view from our room was almost a panoramic view of Lake Erie. And the view from a deck close to the water was spectaucular. The deck needs updated furniture. There are two flights of stairs to get to the rooms. Breakfast was not what is offered at most B&B's though it was adequate, served buffet style with cold foods and a microwave for prepackaged pancakes. Plenty of cold foods- mixed fruit, babanas, cold cereal, muffins, etc. the in room air conditioner did create some noise but kept the room cool.Rooms were decorated in quaint antique style. Overall, a place I would recommend for the lake view.

Room Tip: Second room on the right has a lovely view.

Nine family members converged from all over the country for a reunion, and booked the whole B&B. It was a perfect (temporary) family home. Very cozy communal rooms for gathering. The kids enjoyed the game and DVD selections. The breakfast options were varied enough for all the food preferences of our group. Denny and his daughter were wonderful hosts, accommodating our schedule, engaging, available but unobtrusive. We felt well taken care of. They stayed off-site, giving us the opportunity to come in late, tell stories and laugh until the wee hours, and generally make ourselves at home. Beautiful neighborhood. My only regret is that we were so busy away from the B&B we didn't have much time for sitting by the lake.

Room Tip: I was traveling solo so I got the single bed in the top floor suite. It was my young-girl fantasy, m...

We stayed one night here on June 17th in the Lighthouse room and loved it. The view was wonderful and the grounds were peaceful. The innkeeper was helpful in recommending places to go with our daughter. Breakfast was wonderful, and we will definitely be stopping back again when we're in Avon Lake!
