Ketch 55 has long been among my favorites on Hatteras, one of a handful of restaurants where a consistently excellent meal can be enjoyed. On discovering that friends from out of town had not experienced their offerings, I took the opportunity to share one of Hatteras' best culinary experiences, while also having my first "test drive" their new executive chef.
We were not disappointed. The raw oysters and steamed clams were to the usual high fresh standards. The pear and goat cheese salad with fried carrot strands was creative, delicious, and beautifully presented. The Parmesan encrusted flounder was sufficiently delectable to convince that the fish on the plate may have been swimming that morning. The service provided by Jay was the pleasant and professional excellence expected.
Ketch 55 maintains its place as one of Hatteras Island's most enjoyable dining experiences.
