Love the oldness of the house, old furniture, the layout of the bedrooms were great, just really disappointed in the bathrooms...no sink countertops. Doorknobs were an issue also..trouble opening and closing the doors. Now if one is short like me FORGET about trying to get into the kitchen cabinets!! Drawers in kitchen and bedrooms were troublesome also, have to be very careful in opening them! I love Hatteras Island so I am content with all the houses we've rented.

Absolutely horrible experience. We paid for early check in only to discover the property was not cleaned. The supervisor informed me upon arrival and tried to rectify (and was great to work with) but the crew was less that adequate. I ended up cleaning the house myself so we could get our son a nap.
The linen company Surf or Sound refers you to is also a scam. I paid extra for the beds to be made upon arrival and we ended up doing everything ourselves. Unacceptable.
I had 4 maintenance visits to fix the HVAC. The freon was recharged but the both the bottom floor and top floor maintained a temperature of around an unpleasant 80 degrees throughout our stay. The rental company ended up admitting that's just how the house is...
Almost all the house's door knobs fell off. Numerous lights did not work. Best of all, the house has fleas. The rental company admitted it was just fumigated mid-June but still has a problem. We were never informed that we'd be staying in a flea infested home. Even though our dogs are on Frontline, we still needed to give them additional doses and a flea bath prior to our departure. The rental agency only offered to fumigate the house if we vacated the property for several hours and blamed the infestation on raccoons in the area.
This place a total dump. I've stayed in home rentals all over the country and this is, hands down-the worst. It's in need of some serious maintenance. I'd steer clear unless you want the same experience.
Absolut Pleasure is a great oceanfront cottage, and it allows pets. It's a great place for dogs providing they don't mind lots of steps (which was a bit of a challenge for our 12 year old, arthritic herding dog mix). We stayed in December 2016. It's oceanfront with direct access to the beach, which is wonderful, with a great view of the ocean and dunes. The front staircase is steep and long (over 20 steps), but the internal staircase is in better shape, out of the weather, well lit, goes down directly to the under-the-house parking area, and much easier to navigate. Be aware that the Outer Banks are mostly closed down in the winter - there are very few amenities (restaurants, rental places, amusements, etc.) open. The desolation is quite nice, but plan ahead. We drove here from about 400 miles away and brought plenty to cook (the kitchen is well equipped) and ran to the Food Lion to supplement things, but there were no local fresh fish places open and only a few restaurants. If you're into beachfront solitude, a comfortable place to hang out, and pet-friendly, this place is hard to beat.
