The management was helpful, the beach is gorgeous, the resort is clean and the kitchen was well stocked. Yes, it is "old and dated" but many of us are too. There are many things to do and see in the area. We will go back. It was very comfortable.

My wife and I where here from Oct 20th to Oct 27th,2012. If you like beaches you'll love this area. You can walk along the beach all day.It is also a fisherman's paradise. The resort is well maintained. The only thing someone may complain about is that the rooms are dated, but they are clean and have a well stocked kitchen. There is a good size pool with a water-slide that all ages can enjoy in the middle of the buildings. There is also a indoor pool which has warm water. We were lucky we had beautiful weather 75 F to 80 F. We pretty much stayed on our own but there is a lot to see in the area. We left just before SANDY came :-)
If we were coming back this way we would have no hesitation to stay here again.

My hats off to the new management at A Place at the Beach. We have been there 3 years and the upgrades are really showing now. We took a tour of the newly remodeled condos, new carpeting, new stainless steel appliances, new granite counter tops, the works. They are doing between 2 and 3 upgrades a year, so do the math, it will take many years to upgrade the entire facility. The units that owned by title holders are the ones you want to rent, not the ones thru the travel agencies, they are the excess units no one uses. Go on Craigs list to find the better units.
Again kudos to the staff.

Room Tip: Don't go thru travel agencies, Atlantic beach realtor Hull Reality or Craig's list is better.

We just returned from A Place At The Beach III and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this property. I'm not sure why this property has some of the bad reviews that it does. While our one bedroom unit was "tired" and could use some updating, the unit was sufficient and comfortable for our week long stay.
The master bedroom had a full or queen size bed, the other bedroom which could be sectioned off by a partition had a twin with another trundel twin. I believe the sofa was also a full size sofabed, but we never checked this. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes to accommodate several people or meals and enough pans to be able to cook meals, if desired. There was a small balcony area with just enough room for two patio chairs and a small table, but we had a view of the beach/water, so we were happy. The resort asks you to not hang towels, bathing suits, etc. over the railing of the balcony, but we had a clothes line strung just inside the balcony fence which provided a perfect solution. We did run to Dollartree to purchase new clothespins and a laundry basket.
The outdoor pool area is quite large, although the water was cool. There is a water slide which many people took advantage of using with the provided innertubes. There were enough tables and umbrellas that if you didn't want to be in the sun, you could still enjoy the pool area & stay in the shade.
The mini-golf was apparently a recent addition & a very nice 9-hole course. While we were playing, people were working in the course, keeping it neat & clean.
If you want to do laundry and don't have the washer/dryer in your unit, you can go to the laundry area which has 4 washers (front load) and 4 dryers. There is a 1.75 per load charge for washers & 1.50 per load for dryers - cash & credit both accepted. You do need to provide your own detergent.
One other thing to note - many resorts of this type furnish pool towels for use while you are staying at the property, but this one does not. Be sure to bring pool towels or be prepared to run to Wings or Pacific to purchase towels for the week.
The staff was always very pleasant and helpful with whatever request we had.
There are many restaurants that serve wonderful meals nearby in Atlantic Beach, Morehead City or Beaufort. There are many things to do in the area - fishing, shelling, taking a ferry to Shackleford Island to see the wild horses, etc.

This trip was booked by a wonderful friend and was supposed to be a handicap accessible room. She and I both called that morning and verified the room type and room number. We arrived at about 8:30 that night and were sent to a regular room up a very long and steep ramp. My wheelchair would not go through the bathroom doors. We went back down and told the staff the problem and he suggested I just not go to the bathroom during the night and that maybe they could find a different room for us in the morning. We left and found a different hotel that night just to sleep in. We then left the next morning and checked into an oceanfront hotel for our last night.

The worst part of this trip was that I had spent most of the summer in the hospital fighting a brain tumor and the one thing I wanted the whole time was to see the ocean again and to see it with my family. I cried after seeing those bathroom doors.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel.
