“Loved it!”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

My family are huge history buffs. I happened to be in the area for a conference and we had some free time. I took my family to Fort Macon, not knowing it was in the area. We had a blast. Safety is a bit of an issue if you have small children since the fort if staged how it was originally constructed (tall walls with no rails). Other than that, it was an incredible afternoon walking through the Fort and along the beach.

Exhibits were well done. Well maintained facility. Enjoyed the areas with dialogue describing what it was like during the time period.

“Beautiful View”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

The view was beautiful and there was a very nice visitors centers. There was a beach access, however swimming was not allowed. Also there was not camping allowed. Road blocks are installed at night, so after 5:30pm, you can't even go enjoy the view.

“Go fly a kite”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Right on the point, this is a great place to fly a kite, hit the beach, or explore a pre- and civil war era fort. There are occasional firings of the cannon and if you can get a guide, it will help to explain life at the time. Everything is well preserved with a few rooms set up to immerse you into a solider's life. The book shop is small but has some period and local history books.
