Enjoyed seeing history and this doesn't disappoint ! It's amazing how our history is shown here! Can climb to. The top which is nice to see from the top! A self guided tour and it shows how they lived. Saw uniforms and old items that the soilders had and how they survived! Cool part of history!

An amazing fort with rooms to walk in. Free to go to and worth the trip. The views are beautiful from the fort. As a state park employee, don't forget to donate to your state parks!! We love you all for it :) help preserve this landmark!

A few minutes off the beaten path, but worth a look. This free museum showcases a fort designed to defend North Carolina from the Civil War era until World War II

Fort Macon is a very neat place to visit. The fort is well maintained. If you are visiting with small children, I recommend holding their hands at all times. There aren't any railing to protect you as you walk through the fort so it can be a bit dangerous. Right at the entrance they have a sign that says, "Caution: Fort Macon was made for war not safety Please be careful".

There are some air-conditioned rooms that you could go into to see a model of how the soldiers lived back in the day. There is a lot of history here. Some of the display cases have silverware, bottles, guns, etc from different times.

They have done a really nice job of showing the visitors what it was like during the different wars. There is a short video that did a great job of explaining all of the events that happened in Fort Macon since the mid-1800s.

Adults and older children (teenagers) would probably enjoy the fort the most.

we loved the free view of the beach and the facility,
just trying to imagine how those whom manned the fort for different time periods must have adapted to the constant changes
