Zooland Family Campground
Reviewed November 10, 2013

My family and I just returned for a long weekend at Zooland Family Campground. Check-in was a breeze. We had spot #1. This was fantastic. The lot was level, pull thru, and spacious. The lot was directly across from all the children's activities. This was great for our kids. The campground is very clean. Bathhouses are up to date and very nice. Campground has washer, dryer (takes quarters) and there is an iron and ironing board provided. Very quiet at night. 10 minute drive to main shops and restaurants in Asheboro. Our kids attempted to fish but, due to the time of year they had no luck. The camp store had a variety of things to choose from. Arcade room was nice for the kids. It offered a pool table, juke box, foosball, and a variety of games. The jumping pillow was inflated. This was a hit for all the kids in the campground! We cannot say enough nice things about this campground. We definetly will be back!!

Very clean campground with nice "old school" vintage sign decorations throughout. They have made numerous upgrades through the campground that are evident.

The bathhouses are very clean with new showers, toilets and countertops. My only complaint is that there is no mat outside of the shower (my wife almost fell on her face getting out), and there is no shelf or stool to place your clothes on so you have to lay them on the floor.

The service was excellent. The same lady (I should have gotten her name) at the front helped us each night. She was very kind and had a great attitude. You can tell she enjoys her job and company she works for.

As other reviews have stated, the lots are gravel and dirt (or grass) and you can see where water runoff runs down the hills through some of the lots. It did not rain during our stay so we had no problem. PLENTY of shade.

Besides the zoo there didn't appear to be too much to do in Asheboro, but we stayed busy at the campground with the nice pools (one for adults and one for kids which was excellent since we have a 3 y.o.) bounce pillow, miniature golf, and playground. They have a wood shed and fire pits at each lot which was nice.

The cons: Wifi is terrible throughout the campground. The only spot that it worked was at the office so don't expect to connect from your site. There is no cable access and the shower situation as listed above. This however, did not ruin our trip and we enjoyed being "disconnected."

We had our first visit to Zooland this past weekend. We really enjoyed it. We were able to call two days in advance and get reservations. The rates are great for a full hook up and they have a good amount of those. We arrived early in the afternoon and got checked in fast. All the full hook up sites are pull through which makes it nice. However some of the sites are on a slope which would make leveling a little more difficult. We were fortunate to get a more level site. Most sites are shaded.
There is catch and release pond. putt-putt, game room, playground, horse shoes, general store which closes at 3 and pool. Pool closes at 8pm which was a disappointment. There is a nice creek with a trails. We enjoyed walking our dog through those. The kids LOVED the bouncy pillow. It was lots of fun to jump on it with them.
The zoo is roughly 9 miles away and an easy drive. Saturday night there was a DJ on the deck area which drew a crowd. We attended and had a nice time. Check out is 1pm. We enjoyed our stay there and we will be back in the future.

The place is a complete mudhole in the rain. The lower area has standing water everywhere. They have two bathhouses, the larger one by the store was closed. No a/c in any of their buildings, wifi is poor as others have said on rvparkreviews. No cable, but I knew this. They did have activities planned and the fishing pond is good. Not their fault it rained, but they haven't done anything about the potholes and poor drainage. Better off to stay in the FHU sites as they're on a hill. It's inexpensive to stay there for a reason.

Zoo land Family Campground is probably one of the better campgrounds we have visited. The bounce pillow and playground are a lot of fun for the kids. The pool looked well kept. The park itself is very clean.
The bathhouses are also very clean. But there are a few quirks. Water pressure. My husband said his was fine but the ladies room is a real pain in the tail. The further back you go, the less water you get. Take a shower in the back stall you might as well hang a 2 liter in a tree with a nail hole punched in it. First stall equals great water pressure. However, you loose a shelf to put your soap and stuff on. Come on. Really? No shelf? Nothing? It was a debacle. Shelf but no water pressure versus water pressure but not even a ledge....
And putting a small bench or shelf in the dressing area would be awesome!
The toilet stalls are incredibly short in depth. If I had hit my head on the hanger on the door one more time I was going to yell. Which I did the final night anyway. A change up in design would be awesome for those of us over 5' tall. Just move that hook over.
The staff was friendly. The grounds well kept. We will however look into the flatter grassier section next time instead of the tight quarters sloped full hook up sites. Many of the occupied sites are permanent or long term and the tenants have started to sprawl a bit. Especially the guy beside us. With his tent room. Awning. Dogs. Dog poop. Etc.
There were no organized activities going on the weekend we were there.
The kids were very well behaved. I didn't have to glare at any. Even the adults were well behaved. We enjoyed a very quiet stay.
We have AT&T and had very little phone service, texting and sketchy 4G. Pretty much unplugged all weekend.
We will definitely come back. But with a few changes.

Asheboro is only about 45 minutes away from my home where Zooland Family Campground is located. It is in close proximity to the NC Zoo and close to the main town of Asheboro. You have several nice restaurants and some decent shopping. The Asheboro Mall is about 10 minutes away. This is a pretty nice campground. My family and I make 2 - 3 trips a year in an RV to this campground. It is very inexpensive, $30 a night. They do have several "permanent" RV'ers there, but they are the ones that maintain the campground. The maintenance, mowing, pool cleaning, and etc.... That's what pays for their stay, they have to work so many hours a month there. I have never stayed in a tent here, or at the bottom section of the campground, as the lower level part is not a full hook-up, they only have water/electric. I like staying on the top section. Closer to the pool and bathhouses. This is a very family oriented and friendly atmosphere. We really enjoy going to Zooland, because it is close to our house, the kids enjoy this campground, its clean, and its is very cheap for all you get. They have done some renovations to the campground and it is even nicer than before. They have made a new mini-golf course, new bathhouses, and the store has a pretty good selection, considering the size of this campground. If your looking for a quiet, nice, relaxing, and affordable campground close to a lot of places, but it doesn't seem like, then this is the place for you. GO RVing, and Have Fun!!! Only bad thing about this place, and I spoke with the manager there, they are suppose to begin a new project next year, where they will be leveling the sites better than what they are now. If you plan on camping, be sure you bring plenty of wood to level up your camper.

Stayed all through out 2012 and already once in 2013.

We always camp the weekend after Easter. This year we camped in the rain at least the first day. A lot of the campsites were wet and only a couple flooded. I really expected more flooding as we received a 1/2 inch of rain. There was an RV that got stuck but he tried to make a back in site a pull through. It didn't work.

The Apache pop up group spent their weekend there too and it got crowded but due to the large sites it never felt cramped. Great bunch of people. Saturday night tthe campground had a dj come and the deck was full of campers dancing and having a great time.

Another great long weekend at Zooland family campground. I posted a lot of photos to give a view of the place.
