“astonishing hotel, beautiful furnishings, great holiday”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

this is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen; modern, contemporary and with upscale furnishings and fittings, some very nice service touches - including champagne on arrival and upgrade to 'sunset suite', together with complimentary internet access for the duration of my stay - nice welcome!
the suites are beautifully fitted with huge bathrooms, a wide selection of toiletries replaced daily, bathrobes, slippers; the lounge contains a minibar with soft drinks and cans of beer, and there is a kettle with tea and coffee; in the bedroom area a digital safe is provided at no charge, and was large enough to fit my netbook in

at the risk of trying not to repeat what has already been written, suffice to say this is a luxurious property and if you stay there you will have a fantastic holiday

Positives:

do try the Italian a la carte, an amazing experience, great service, amazing presentation, wonderful food (tiramisu to die for!)
great rooms, no noise from adjacent rooms, fantastic balcony with amazing view
huge bathroom, beautifully fitted, with walk-in shower
exemplary housekeeping standards
laundry service - excellent
nice food at lunchtimes served by the main pool (or you can use the main restaurant)
the hotel has a ten pin bowling alley and cinema - bonus!
some notably excellent staff - the young man on check in (in the middle of the night), the young lady in the 'sports bar' always a great welcome and smile, the two girls in the Italian restaurant - very professional, and finally the receptionist on check out, warm and smiling
excellent food breakfast, lunch and dinner, huge choice, and each evening freshly grilled/barbecued meats and fish cooked outside
lovely spa - but pricey!

couple of negatives (which did not spoil my holiday in any way, just minor annoyances)

no information about hotel on check in, or in rooms, so it was a question of finding everything for yourself (in fairness, having completed my comment card and handed in to reception on Saturday night; on Sunday afternoon I had a call from the guest service manager, who asked if I would spend some time to discuss my comments, what a pleasant young man, a real credit to the hotel - he explained there was an information channel on the TV which I should have been told about and was very apologetic - good idea in theory, but in practice when I checked later on that day, it was not there, (and even the technician that reception sent down to find it was unable to do so) a back up is required as it would be good to know what is included in all inclusive, what the check out time is, how to book a la carte restaurants, etc

there was a large conference in the hotel during my stay, and unfortunately this made the evening service in the main restaurant - well to put it kindly - 'haphazard'

entertainment (well in fairness it was the end of the season) but two nights of bingo, and two quiz nights is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, there was a band one night in the rosebud bar, and they were pretty good

the hotel offers a bus service daily to Turgutreis and Bodrum (10 euro return to Turgutreis, not sure of price to Bodrum) which is handy, just book the day before at the guest relations desk in reception; or you can walk out the hotel and catch a Dolmus to Turgutreis by the supermarket (there is a bus stop) for 3 Turkish Lira

In summary, a few little issues which if resolved would make this hotel 100%, as it is, I had a fantastic, relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings, with surprisingly great weather for the time of year, the acid test: would I go back? - YES, YES, YES, tomorrow if I could!

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me

Room Tip: try for an upgrade to a Sunset Suite, the views over to Kos are incredible

Recently returned from an amazing two weeks at Xanadu Island hotel, thank you to Lorraine and Arthur for the recommendation. This hotel ticked all the boxes as it had a running circuit around the grounds which were beautiful and well kept, there was a gym, indoor pool and spa. The 'vital' massage we can definitely recommend. Sea was crystal clear and lovely to swim in, only issue - there are limited sun beds on the decking so be prepared to go down early to put towels on! Fantastic unlimited number of sun towels every day. Our room was spotlessly clean and huge as was the bathroom. Excellent choice of food daily with a grill every night with freshly cooked meat and fish. I do not eat meat and had a varied choice of meals. Italian restaurant was delicious with two lovely waitresses. Choice of drinks were excellent, mostly branded. Kerry the Thomas Cook rep was very informative. All the hotel staff were excellent, v professional, polite and approachable. If you are looking for 5 star accommodation then you will not be disappointed unless you are really fussy.

Stayed in October with just a few weeks left before hotel closed until mid April. Weather was 25 degrees each day. Last day it rained, good time to go home! We are fussy and quite well traveled having been on approximately 50 all inclusive holidays. Struggle to agree with some of the negative reviews.

Location ~
Hotel is located approximately 1 hour from Bodrum Airport. We chose a private transfer via minibus with Suntransfers (£85). Would sooner take this option as opposed to doing a world tour of hotels to drop people off and taking 2 hours to get there by coach. Actual hotel is not in Turgetreis, but about 15 minutes away by bus. Cost about £2.50 each.Turgetreis is worth a visit as has a good range of bars, shops and restaurants along with a nice marina.
There is another village which is closer at 30 minute walk, but is predominantly made up of restaurants.

Reception/arrival ~
We were greeted in Reception with a cocktail and bags taken to room by bell boy. Reception don't appear to be in any big rush to do anything. Surprise was that we were upgraded to Romance suite upon arrival (thanks Shell).

Bedrooms ~
Absolute luxury. Set over 3 rooms. Living area with huge TV (50 channels) but don't go on holiday to watch TV! Someone on here moaning they couldn't get Coronation Street. Get a life! Minibar with various drinks was topped up each day free of charge. Sofa, writing desk and table. Walk in wardrobe with safe at no charge.
Bedroom had massive round bed. Managed to lose the wife on 3 occasions! Balcony with pleasant view/part seaview.
Bathroom had separate toilet and shower rooms. 2 wash basins and Jacuzzi from where you could watch TV. Complimentary slippers, dressing gowns and soaps, shampoos etc etc.
On my birthday, staff left flowers, birthday cake, balloons, bottle of champagne, hand written letter from management and 25% off treatments in spa.
Room service is available 24/7. Guest relations are available 24/7.

Hotel ~
Beautiful setting and kept spotlessly clean throughout. You could eat your dinner in the toilets ( I didn't bother). Staff are all very pleasant and helpful and whilst tips are gratefully appreciated, there is no pressure to tip staff like Egypt. Shops on site sell the usual papers and souvenirs etc.
Grounds are beautifully kept and take 30 minutes to walk round perimeter. Beautiful views. Great sunrise views.
Games bar has bowling alley, football tables, table tennis, snooker and pinball machines all free of charge.
Cinema with different film each night.

Food/drink ~
Food is available 24/7, as is drink.

Breakfast ~ 10 different teas, 5 different coffees, 5 different juices, hot chocolate, 5 different hams, scrambled eggs (5 types), boiled eggs (soft/medium/hard),3 different toasted sandwiches, 12 different omelettes, 10 different breads, 15 different croissants, 10 different fruits, 5 different juices, beef bacon, chicken sausage, beef sausage,10 different cereals, pancakes, beans, 5 different yogurts.
Yep, that's right, there is no British bacon available. We are in a Muslim country. If you want bacon baps slum it in Blackpool.
Lunch/dinner ~
2 different soups.
10 different meats including steak, duck, lamb, veal, ham, chicken curries etc etc.
5 different fish dishes including hake, octopus, bass and tuna etc.
5 different potato dishes including chips. baked potatoes, wedges and boiled etc.
5 different veg dishes including carrots, peas, spinach and broccoli etc.
25 different puddings including chocolate fountain.
A la carte restaurants were tried on 2 occasions. Excellent.
Outside snack bars serve pizzas, chips, steaks and burgers.
Yep, that's right, there is no McDonalds on site! What exactly did the person want who said food was crap?

Pools ~
Many to choose from including inside. Outside was cold, but it was October.

Entertainment ~
We never go on holiday to be entertained as we are not in Butlins and we make our own entertainment. At this time of year, entertainment was largely closed down but there was some acts available in upstairs bar. Big shout out for Simon who was fantastic throughout working really hard to keep everyone going. Top entertainer. So sorry you got beaten on bowls!
Photographer on site is Timmy Mallet and was great.
Spiderman made a guest appearance on 1 night at Karaoke.
Tries Paragliding and buggy boat which were great and are available from private beach.

In main season there is an amphitheatre.

Spa ~ Tried this once for a massage. Great atmosphere and great service.

Went to Bodrum 1 day on bus. 1 hour away and only £5 each worth a visit. Went to Kos 1 day which Reception sorted at a cost of £25. Long day starts at 8am and returns to hotel at 6.30. Not convinced I would do it again.

The 222-room hotel built in 2010 has quite often been evaluated positively and I basically agree with those contributions. Instead of repeating those statements I want to deal with a few aspects that have not often or not at all been addressed or that are typical of the season of our visit.
When we stayed at the hotel in October, there were still plenty of guests; no nationality seemed to dominate the crowd.
In contrast to many other hotels guests are not obliged to wear AI bracelets.
There is free parking. Unfortunately road conditions on the Bodrum Peninsula are still relatively poor.

The quiet location of the hotel on a peninsula of its own is an outstanding advantage. On the other hand the trip to the nearest big tourist centre in Bodrum is quite time-consuming.

The service at the hotel is the only field where significant deficiencies become evident. This refers to both the front desk and restaurant staff.
The ladies at the front desk were welcoming on our arrival, which was rather late because of a one-hour delay of our SunExpress flight and a long two-hour transfer from Bodrum. The restaurant had just closed. When we inquired about dinner there was only the alternative of being charged for the room service or having some dry sandwiches and a piece of cake at the bar.
Setting up Wi-Fi in the room was impossible due to missing data (network key). When reporting the problem at the reception I was told that the IT-specialist had his day off which was not helpful. Only after insisting on an immediate solution of the problem it could finally be solved in a time-consuming way via a hotline. More training of the staff in IT matters is urgently needed..
Most of the very young staff in the restaurant tried their best. But as they never asked if you wanted to have your glass filled up, it can be assumed that the staff was instructed to do so only on special request of the guest. This is not a 5-star practice.
On leaving the hotel at the end of the stay there were contrasting experiences. It proved no problem to keep the room till transfer time in the afternoon. On the other hand checkout was practically without words. After a week's stay, you might expect an inquiry if you were satisfied with your stay.

The hotel offers very good Turkish cuisine and a large selection, too. Though not all of the food was to our taste, we never had problems to find something nice. Although there were no theme dinners, there was still a varying food offer every day of our one-week stay. We especially enjoyed the daily barbecue dishes prepared on the terrace. Also there were never any queues at the buffet.
One problem was, however, that plates were not warmed up inside the restaurant and only slightly outside; as a result dishes got cold very quickly. For some reason even the food in the heat-retaining containers was sometimes nearly cold (e.g. fried eggs at breakfast).

The two large, beautifully landscaped outdoor pools were too cold for use in the second week of October, but the temperature of the sea was still quite acceptable (ca. 22 degrees Celsius). The beach area is mainly strewn with rocks and so it is best to get into in the water by using one of the ladders attached to the piers. The two small bathing bays of the hotel are very attractive but they fill up quickly.
All of the swimming areas are equipped with sunbeds with integrated sunshades, which is definitely a good idea. We also liked the fact that towels were available freely without providing special cards.
The indoor pool was quite large and of pleasant temperature.

Our large room on the 1st floor (no. 1121) in the main building had a spacious balcony and a well-equipped bathroom. The sea view which we had booked was somewhat limited due to an adjacent building. Nevertheless we were very satisfied with the room as everything worked perfectly which is rather rare in hotels. Also the room was cleaned immaculately on a daily basis.
Internet access in the room via Wi-Fi was free and implemented by means of a small router. Once it worked (cf. above) it turned out to be quite fast and reliable. It did not become clear, however, why the access data must be reactivated at the reception after three days and are not valid for the entire length of stay right from the beginning.

Summarizing the hotel can definitely be recommended and hopefully the management will consider improvement of the deficiencies mentioned.

We have just spent a week at xanadu island, this was our second time to this hotel and it was just as good as the first time. We stayed in a sunset suite which was gorgeous. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, the service was very good and the staff all very friendly.

We have just come back from the Xanadu Island aftr a week. We were upgraded to a romance suite as it was our honeymoon and from the start we were treated magnificently. The bathroom and 'living space' were to die for - the bed was an 8 ft circular job and the views from the room were magnificent... THe hotel is on a peninsular and wherever you were you had great views. the food was good the all inclusive package was just that - and 24 hours! And the mini bar was included. Loads of bars loads of staff and all friendly. I have stayed in all sorts of hotels and have had all sorts of experiences - I have NEVER stayed in a hotel that matched this one for quality and value!
The only nit picking point was that the outdoor pool could have been warmer,

Will be go back - yes - for 2 weeks - a week there is not long enough.

Simply the best...

Went there from the 21st September for a week and had a lovely time. Weather was lovely, food was great and the drinks were excellent and very strong. the staff were very helpful but the pool was very cold - just to warn you! one low point which to watch out for is (depending on who you book with) you may get a represenative to come and visit you and offer you a bunch of tours and things to do. Ours was called Emre and basically every trip he offered, we could get cheaper elsewhere and also they were nothing as described which was incredibly disappointing and left a sour taste! all in all, an excellent trip but just watch out for Emre!
