“Great family resort, brilliant food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

We almost reluctantly booked this hotel, at last minute, for a family holiday in August 2013. Reluctantly because of some of the reports we read on here. Most specifically in relation to the lack of choice in food. That, certainly in our experience, is as far from the truth as could possibly be.

Kervansaray has one main buffet restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with 'theatre' cooking on the terrace each time. The variety of food inside is colossal. Always fries/wedges for kids as well as plenty of vegetables and salad choice. The meats, pasta, pizza... how anyone can ever say there is a lack of variety here is beyond me.

And just in case that's not enough, there are 4 other A La carte restaurants and two snack bars where you can get toasties, fries, burgers, pizza... the choice of food for adults and children of multiple nationality is superb.

The cleanliness of the accommodation, the grounds and the hotel is also of excellent standard. Brilliantly powerful air conditioning in the room (which was needed in 46degrees) but i was slightly disappointed with the use of air conditioning in the hotel itself. Sometimes to cool off i'd go to the inside bar for a drink to find the air conditioning was switched off.

The gymnasium is well equipped and air conditioned, I found the inside pool dirty - unloved somewhat; the floor around it and the pool itself was simply not clean when i tried it.

The staff were a mixed set! Theres an arrogance against some of us English that say everyone should talk our language fluently! They don't. I would say: why should they in Turkey? But it is widely communicated in the hotel that the international language is English. So it did, after 10 days, become rather frustrating when the waiters could not understand when we asked for 'water' or 'Fanta'. But it's a small point, it certainly wouldn't hinder my going there again. I could not, hand on heart, say that the staff were 'friendly'. They served you and that was that. There were exceptions of course, one or two really great team members, but on the whole i have encountered far friendlier teams.

That doesn't count for the Entertainment Team. They were fluent English speakers, maintained great energy levels all day and in excessive heat and were professional enough in their approach. Great with kids, a little too much pestering you round the pool for my liking but i'm aware i'm in the minority! The entertainment of an evening and all day around and in the pool is excellent. You never get bored and the kids certainly don't.

There's a restaurant close by in Bodrum that is advertised in the hotel; the Golden Plate. They offer a free transfer service to/from the hotel and you get to shop in Bodrum and have dinner. The rep comes around the pool to try and get you to go. I highly recommend it. It made a nice change, had thoroughly friendly staff, fantastic food and great value. The transfer was reliable and safe.

The watersport offering at Kervansaray is great. Jet ski's, canoeing nearby as well as a host of the usual 'banana boat' type speed boat powered sports.

The pools are generally clean, lots of space and kids love it. And if you want more space you can simply jump on the cliff lift down to the beach where theres a long promenade of sun beds available (with a great sea breeze), bars, snacks and areas of the sea roped off for safe swimming. Lots of fish about to see in the clear waters and for the young ones to feed.

All in all a great resort i would recommend highly, i hesitate over the 'excellent' button purely because of staff friendliness, air con in the inside bar, staff communication and the cleanliness of the inside pool/spa area at the time i was there.

One further piece of advice - go to the resort but don't do it through Thomson if you can avoid it. Their booking process was appalling, customer care abysmal and their rep on site was even worse.

Terrific hotel for a family or for a couple. Beautiful pool, lots of fun activities for everyone, excellent food. Pity about the loud disco music by the pools, but the lift takes you down to the sea, which is quieter and there's more breeze. The all-inclusive principle is brilliant - take a larger size of clothing if you're staying for more than a few days!. Room (in a villa) was spacious and clean, and the aircon worked perfectly. Cobbled paths are not good for anyone with mobility problems...or for high heels (take wedge soles, ladies!) Great service from all the staff - in fact what shocked me most was how rudely some of the guests (English/Turkish/Russian/American) treated the staff. Be polite and considerate and say the occasional "Please" and "Thank you", and the staff will be so surprised and grateful that they will remember you and be extra helpful! The evening entertainment is amateur (this isn't Vegas), which makes it huge fun, especially for kids. Great place - would definitely stay here again.

The resort is spread out across the cliff and the pictures provided by travel agents don't truly show the size of the place, that said it is lovely. If you want to be out of the main area of Bodrum but in close enough distance to pop in this hotel is great.

There is plenty going on in the hotel in the day and throughout the evenings. All the local all inclusive drinks i tried (mainly spirits) were all nice and drinkable unlike some previous places i have been.

The main restaurant has an inside area and outside overlooking the sea and there is plenty of freshly cooked food and buffet topped up regularly. There is plenty to eat and i enjoyed it, for fussy eaters and vegetarians there isn't a great range but you can eat everyday the usual pasta, salad, chips and veg etc. We went to the Italian A la Carte and food there was lovely too.

We spent most of our time around the main pool and popped down the jetty/beach a couple of times. Main pool was never too crowded as it is a large pool and it has the pool bar in it. Always found sunloungers in the morning and we got to the pool about 8.30-9am. Same for the beach area plenty of places to sit. Don't be mistaken by the term 'beach' as it was mainly sun loungers along the bottom and the jetty with steps into the water which for me was great as I'm not a massive fan of the sand but if you are a family and are wanting the sandy beach this doesn't have it.

The people from the water sports and diving centre are very helpful and don't hassle you they just offer and explain if you're interested. I went diving which was great! Recommend as the team down there are great.

If you want anything from reception you will need to get your rep as we asked for another pillow and never got one, they can just brush you off or don't speak English. They seem more interested in clearing the desk to chat to each other rather than help you. The rest of the staff were pretty good, entertainment team were very fun and tried to get everyone involved, most of the bar and waiting staff were great.

Overall lovely resort, I would probably return but would pick a room in the main hotel not a bungalow as they are fairly far out (requiring a bit of walking in the heat) and a lot of them don't have a balcony.

Room Tip: Bungalow rooms could be quite far from the main hotel areas so for a more central location in the re...

I've recently visited this Kervansaray resort with my boyfriend at the end of June/ beginning of July and we had an absolutely amazing time, couldn't have asked for much better! We booked an upgraded room in the hotel with a sea view. The room itself was gorgeous, with great furnishings and very clean, not to mention the view outside which was stunning! Opening the curtains to that view every morning was a real treat!
We came for a relaxing holiday, so the pools didn't really suit us, not because they were rubbish because they weren't, just personal preference. This was not a problem at all as the jetty and decking by the sea was lovely, really quiet and relaxing with bars to get drinks whenever you need! We spent the majority of our time here. The only thing I'd say about here is that there is no beach, only steps to get down into the sea which makes it rather hard to get out if the sea is choppy! Also there are sharp rocks as you enter which both my boyfriend and I cut ourselves on.. just a warning!
Apart from the reception staff, who appeared to be sometimes rather rude as other reviewers have mentioned also, the staff were absolutely amazing, couldn't have asked anymore of them. They were always going out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. We had a lovely cleaning lady who was very helpful, and the waiting staff were all amazing! Thank you guys!
The food there was lovely, with food available all day with something for everyone! The restaurant buffet was really nice, though by the end of the holiday was getting rather repetitive! However, the snack bar was great, it made amazing pizzas, pasta and burgers there! There is always water available to you in fridges situated around the complex.
The complex is situated on a steep hill so probably not suited to everybody, however there are lifts that take you down to the sea front which were very handy!
Our Thompson rep, Sue, was very helpful and we booked all our excursions through her. If you're travelling as a couple I would definitely recommend the adult only all day boat trip that Sue offers, it was heaven! Also went to Bodrum for the afternoon, it's a really nice place to go, just get ready to haggle prices! we had a lot of fun haggling, got some real bargains!

All in all an absolutely amazing hotel and holiday, wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anybody! A 5* holiday all round, thank you Kervansaray!

Room Tip: I would definitely recommend that you upgrade to a hotel sea view room, so worth it!

This hotel is lovely, with very little fault. The rooms are very clean, air conditioned, linen & towels changed daily. Balcony with lovely view, The rooms are fitted with safes at no extra cost, the only fault with our room as the mini-fridge didn't work.
The food at the hotel is lovely with plenty of choice, the main restaurant has everything! from meat, pasta, fish, rice dishes, fruit & veg, English dishes and more. There is fresh food that can be made for you outside e.g. bbq food, pasta and a range of fresh desserts. The menu changes daily and is always fresh. Its really nice.
The hotel is all inclusive, all drinks, food, ice cream and all the snack bars dotted around the hotel which cook burgers, hot dogs, fresh pizzas, and crêpes throughout the day.
The hotel has 4 swimming pools & which are never over crowded and loads of sun loungers along the sea front which we preferred as the was a breeze to cool you down...again directly next to a snack bar.
There is a bus service at the main gate which runs daily into bodrum which changes 1.50 TL each! really cheap so don't book a taxi or use the hotel taxis as they are very expensive (80 TL return) the buses run every 10 minutes.
It was a lovely hotel and we would defiantly go again. The staff are very friendly and help in any way. Excellent & great value for money.
There is also entertainment on throughout the day & at the evening starting from 9.30. sometimes very funny, worth a watch!.

Visited the Kervansary with my girlfriend in July and had a great time. Hotel staff are generally helpful, with the exception of a few select bar staff which can be said for anywhere. There was a great range of food, served throughout the day with something for everyone. The animation team were excellent, with one mention of one in particular worker named Luke who went above and beyond to ensure the days by the pool were enjoyable and entertaining. Overall a good experience and would recommend.

Room Tip: The hotel is situated on a hill, so a room as close to restaurant as possible.
