My husband and I have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Samara, its a nice hotel but I wouldn't rate it 5* more a 4* this is because it doesn't have the grandeur and opulence of other 5* we have stayed in. Our room was 331 lovely big room on ground floor until we heard the noisy air conditioning system that was in the grounds outside our room. We had to resort to ear plugs to sleep it was so noisy. We asked to be moved but the hotel was full and we had to wait while other rooms became empty to take a look at them which we did but decided to stay put as the rooms were not as good as the one we had, we just had to wear earplugs all the time to sleep.
The beach was not as big as I thought it would be, and was rather crowded although you can always manage to get a sunbed. I was rather disappointed at the rough sea as I love snorkelling and the sea was too rough to do this so had to swim in pool instead which was lovely not overcrowded. About every so often the entertainment team did this silly dance on the bridge over the pool in a zombie like fashion which was probably in their job description, with blasting out deafening music so much for a quiet relaxing break.
Our haven was the Spa with Jacuzzi and sauna and indoor pool where we went to for some peace and quiet this was very good. We paid extra for the Turkish bath and massage with oils which I would highly recommend.
The restaurant was ok the food lots of choice and very good im not a fan of the buffet dining as I like to be waited on. I found it quite stressful roaming about dodging other dinners with plates of food up and down all the time after every course not relaxing. What has happened to dress codes My husband and I dressed for dinner everynight as I find this good manners and what I like to do, its not me walking about in shorts t shirt and flip flops at dinner which is what most guests wore. I find it disrespectful to the hotel and other guests who make the effort it doesn't take much to dress smart casual at least.
The Terrace Restaurant was my favourite you are allowed to eat there 2 nights its a la carte there are only 2 set menus of either fish or the meat with full waiter service. No roaming around in this restaurant. If there had been more dishes to choose from there I would have dined there everynight I could not fault it. We had a table over looking the sea its on the roof top so brilliant views of the sunsetting over the sea. Also shorts were not allowed most people made an effort with their appearance when they dined here.
This hotel would not be suitable for young single people looking for nightlife as there is nothing to do after dinner there is only so much one can drink. The kids have a good time as they have shows put on for them in a little outdoor theatre so we ended up out of boredom watching them. We were pleasantly surprised to find jugglers and dancers and contortionists, on there when the kids show had finished although we didn't see it advertised anywhere. So everynight we would see what was happening there, one night it was Turkish dancing and a beautiful belly dancer on which was great. One night there was a group singing on a little stage past the swimming pool which was good so you could get up and dance if you wanted. Then on the sunday night there was stalls set up round the swimming pool selling T shirts , watches perfume hand made crafts which was good.
We ventured into the nightclub disco at 12 if we wanted to carry on drinking as all the other bars stop serving at 12 and they serve while 2 am in there. It was like a 70s disco wish it had been 70s music instead of the tuneless racket that they played there.
Its a pity there wasn't anywhere to walk to near the hotel like a little resort just to get out and see something different as after awhile it gets a bit cabin feverish. So this hotel great if you just want to do nothing and relax .

We stayed at the Samara hotel for a week in June 2014, here are our impressions:

- Food: good but a bit repetitive. Excellent grilled fish. And everything is very clean: not a single stomach issue despite not avoiding "risky" foods.

- Beach: nice but too small for the amount of people and the number of sunbeds. Not enough personal space on the beach. And the swimming area is a bit limited.

- Grounds: absolutely beautiful, the gardeners are doing a great job, and they are kept really clean.

- Rooms: very large beds, averagely confortable. Nice terrace, and very good shower. The rooms are kept very clean.

- Staff: very friendly, most (but not all) of them speak good English or other languages than Turkish.

- Hotel organisation: they could be clearer about activities and the way the resort life is organised, they could give a map of the resort and its surroundings, at times the music is too loud in the pool area, and they could avoid doing noisy gardening activities in the middle of the night.

- Wifi: no wifi in the room, and wifi working (not alway though) in the reception area. There is large room for improvement here.

- Bar: typical all-in, with local (very good) drinks including in the price and imported drinks to be paid extra. Only Nescafe is included, "real" coffee is extra.

Great place for families with safe and quiet surroundings. Plenty of activities, short bus/taxi ride to Bodrum, very friendly staff, excellent food and large number of bars and cafeterias available. Nice large swimming pool, and clean beach for hotel residents only. Tennis courts usually available. Plenty of water sports alternatives but bring your international wind surfing license, without it you will not get your windsurfing board. Program each night, for kids too. Will definitely return. Recommend you rent car and drive around Bodrum peninsula. Eur 60 for family size car. Or rent a boat and go snorkeling.

We have just come back from spending a week at Samara. A beautiful hotel with only a couple of minor observations that could be improved. First the positive:
Immaculately clean - the rooms are perfectly clean as are the restaurants and kitchens.
The grounds are well tended and planted with a wide variety of flowering shrubs.
Plenty of bars with only an average wait of two minutes to get a drink. Inclusive drinks to 2am which is useful as most other hotels finish at 12am.
Main restaurant food is really good. Wide variety, well presented and extremely tasty. Beef (which melts in the mouth), chicken, fish, imaginatively presented vegetables. Lovely. No complaints.
Water sports on the beach. Free pedallo's, canoes etc. The jet bikes (which are not free) are great fun and pretty quick topping out at about 50mph, which on water is QUICK!
Plenty of sun beds with no need to race down to save. Nice private beech which is sandy. You can also put your beds on the grass which is just a few yards from the beech if you don't like sandy feet....
The health spa is amazing with free use of the gym and inside pool. Massages and beauty treatments have to be paid for but oh my word.....what amazing massages. Wonderful, floating on air afterwards. I had to have another toward the end of the week.
The only real room for improvement is the time they serve dinner. It starts at 7pm and finishes at 9.30pm. That means you have to be off the beach at 7.30 in time to get changed and ready for dinner. The sun is still hot then - if they served dinner till 11pm - you could easily sunbath until 9pm. Still that is the only small 'grumble'.
We shall be going back in October!!!!

We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time. The hotel staff is very attentive and the service in impeccable. They are constantly cleaning up and checking in. The room was nice and clean and surprisingly quiet (there are lots of animations that sometimes go later into the night). The open buffet is convenient, but the food isn't amazing. In general, Turkish food is fresh and delicious and the buffet left something to be desired. The terrace restaurant is great, though.
