“Value for Money!! Kym & Tracey”
Reviewed May 20, 2009

Me and my best friend went here from the 2nd May to the 9th May on a last minute break! The hotel was very clean except for the first night we got there we woke up to ants all around the side of our bed... we packed our things and they put us into a better room were we was more than satisfied with. the rooms were big and the bathroom was a good size to! As Claire said in one of the comments below ... we have never sat on a toilet so high !! we could swing our feet !!
The hotel staff were lovely , they couldn’t do enough for you, and the food was edible... there isn’t alot of choice if you don’t eat much salad and cheese... there’s always warm food provided but not your typical chips , pizza etc... afternoon there is a chance to grab a burger and fries from the little kitchen at the side of the pool bar , we looked forward to that!! the all-inclusive drinks weren’t brilliant neither as they only had ... local beer, wines, Vodka, whiskey, raki and Brandy.. that’s fine if you like these but I’m more of a Malibu and peach snaps kind of drink , which you expect to be able to get in a 4* hotel!! The hotel is more like a 2*-3* not 4* but only because of the food , as the hotel and pool area was great!! The pool was cold but started to heat up as the weather was getting better!! It was very hot so no doubt be hitting 40 now, the last day we couldn’t stay out in it !!!!!
Gumbet bar street is really good ... I wouldn’t say there are loads of bars but there are enough to have a good night!! although watch they don’t over charge you as we were, they charged us 20 lira for 2 Malibu and cokes which is about £18 !!! try and haggle with them.
The best bars we found were Shakers and we love Mr Frogs Karaoke bar the atmosphere in both of these bars are fantastic!! Shakers bar has some of the lads that work there dancing on the dance floor to get you up ... they are fantastic dancers!! And again the atmosphere is brilliant ... there is a club across from shakers called X-BAR ... we went in once and came straight back out as we felt out of place in there ... everyone seems to know each other in there and so on... but it may be different as turkey gets busy.. we went right at the beginning of may which is the quietist time but we still had a good time.. Overall Gumbet is a nice place to go to .. we had a good holiday but I don’t think I would go back, although we made friends with a lovely couple when we was there .. Claire and Jamie.. they learnt us on how to haggle!! Cheers you 2!!! was nice meeting you both !!!

I returned from the Eken Resort hotel yesterday. We went from 11 May to 18 May.
4 of us went (2 couples between 19-21)
I am going to give a very honest review here as no hotel is perfect.
We arrived at 5am on Tuesday 12 May after a long journey. Our transfer took approx 35 minutes from the airport and we were very very tired. The first impressions of the hotel is that it was very impressive with an imaculate entrance hall! We were greeted by the reception staff who took us to our rooms (111 & 112) which we requested next to each other. They had made us a sandwich and got us some drinks.
The rooms were fantastic!!!! Where I has normally stayed in a room with a kitchen these were proper hotel rooms with a fridge, double and single bed and bathroom. Plenty of wardrobe space, telly and desk. There was also air conditioning which was free all holiday!
* The only criticism I heard from other guests about the rooms were the three next to the sauna which had damp but anyone who requested to move was moved.

Anyone who has any criticisms about the food are usually people who expect chips and burgers. Breakfast is typical turkish breakfast - pancakes cooked infront of you, omelettes, the most amazing bread which they cook themselves everyday, jams, cereals, eggs and sausages.
Lunch is a chicken dish a meat dish a vegetarian dish and a huge range of salads and eggs.
Tea is a the same as lunch but with a man cooking fresh pasta with a choice of 4 sauces, pizza type breads and there were chips on 2 of the 7 days. There was also always a meatball dish, a different one everyday cooked differently - which you don't have to have!!! Food was always hot and fresh.
There were snacks available throughout the day - chips and burgers, chicken doner meat.
The staff were brilliant - very professional and very friendly and the food manager Mehmet was such a lovely person.
The pool area is really brilliant - there are sunloungers on a terrace above the pool and around the pool which is not small!!!
In the local area there are bars and watersports on the beach front and in gumbet there are loads of shops where the prices are as good as in the market!
All the market stalls and shops accept the euro and the english pound aswell as the lira.
There are also the more lively bars in gumbet aswell as a 24 hour bar.

The hotel provides a turkish bath which is brilliant and costs very small fee. Also there is a hairdresser and they do cut throat shaves and beauty treatments.

I read somewhere that the drinks are watered down and no-one was ever drunk. I can assure you this is NOT true!!! I was drunk everynight and there is no such thing as a measure!!!! I was having to get a vodka and a coke separately as they were just too strong!!!

Overall this is the best all inclusive hotel I have ever been too (We were having a heatwave and it was never below 30 degrees). I am definetley going to go back and if you are going have a wonderful time! By the time we left on 18th the season was in full swing (Aquapark opened on 19th May which we were gutted about but we went bananna boating and jet skiing to make up for it!)

There are people of all ages there and although they play music round the pool it varies between pop, turkish and classical!!!

If you are going have a great time!

My husband and I have just returned from the Eken Hotel in Turkey and we had the best time ever. As always we read all the review's about the hotel before going but to be honest we take no notice of the "miserable buggers on holiday .com" and use the sites for photo's.
THE HOTEL AND STAFF
The hotel is situated in a great location - You have the best on both worlds. Not too close to bar street and all the restuarants but just a few miniutes walk and you have all the night life you could possibly imagine.
All the staff at the Hotel are just fantastic - Special mention to Mehmet ( thank you so much for making our holiday so special, a true gentleman and a top man ). Also Erhan, Eran and Dolphin behind the bar. Always having a good time and helping us with our Turkish.
The Eken hotel is really clean and tidy. The maids come and change the sheets and towels everyday. Although the balconies are very small this really didnt bother us. The rooms have a fridge, plenty of wardrobe space, and a big clean bathroom. More than comfortable. Although - I have never sat on the toilet that high in my life! You will see what I mean.
THE FOOD AND DRINK
Breakfast - Always a choice of 3 or 5 minuite eggs and then another hot choice. We have pancakes, sausage, Scrambled eggs. There was 5 or 6 different cerals, hams cheese's, tomatoes, cucumber, yougarts, olives fresh bread and and good choice of pastries. There was also a selection of tea's, coffee's and juices. And if you really want "a full English" for between 7 - 10 TLY you can get this in any of the resturants near by.
At lunch time you could have soup, rice Turkish pitta bread, and another 3 hot food choices along with bundles of fresh salad, tapas, pasta, breads and yummy Turkish cakes.
Between 3 and 5.30 you could also get burgers and chips form the roof terrace bar. Great if you have started on the beers in the early afternoon. Dinner was the same as lunch but with all different selections and ever more yummy cakes.
To be completly honest - We were there for 2 weeks and eat something diiferent every meal. It was always fresh and the waiting staff were second to none.
If you do want to eat out we would recommend China Town (just past bar street, but if you ask at reception they will call the resturant who provide a free taxi to pick you up - very VIP) The food is great and the service is something else.
Drinks at the hotel are free between 10 in the morning till 12 midnight. Ask Eran for a pink panther - Very nice! You can have local beer, wines, Vodka, whiskey, raki and Brandy as part of the all inclusive which IS NOT watered down and really does get you drunk!
OUT AND ABOUT
There is so much to see and do in Gumbet especially if your a party animal. Bar street is crazy but quite expensive compaired to the bars along the beach. If you want to watch any sport while on holiday - most bars will be showing it but we would recommend Sami beach hotel. Just a short walk from the Eken along the beach. Gerat atmosphere!
If you fancy some watersports - try Gumbet water sports - they do all the usual but resonable prices and great staff. We really enjoyed the Jet ski and parasailing.
Take the local bus or a stroll into Bodrum one day. They have a market on Tuesday and Fridays and the marina is just beautiful. If you do got shopping remember to haggle for everything. It's good fun and the locals love it. Also try and lean a few wourd in Turkish. This really goes along way with the locals and is good fun.
AT THE HOTEL
The turkish bath is a must - But try and do it on the first few days of your holiday. Not only is it relaxing but perpares your skin for tanning. Also Men should get a shave at the hotel or a hair cut. The lad that does the hair cuts is very good.

If you want a great holiday and be around a great atmosphere this is the hotel for you bit basic but has all you want the staff and management are really fantastic all very friendly and make you feel at home, free turkish baths and massages for a small price, everywhere very clean, and unless fussy could always find something to eat, but is more based on turkish food instead of english, I cannot wait to go back again and will go back to the Eken

stayed at eken in may 2009 with large family and friends ,found hotel very basic and rooms smelt of damp food was very repetitive and of poor standard egg cheese cold meats salads and bread not suitable for children some meals like stews but very oily ,beer watered down never saw anyone drunk in hotel and very limited choice of drinks you have to pay for bacardi or imported shorts staff behind the bar very unsociable and didnt speak any english took them all there time to serve you unless your skirt was short or you had your boobs hangin out, pool area very small and slippy glad hotel wasnt busy as it was only start of the season hate to be here when its busy, gumbet nice but this hotel is down a steep dark road and not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties as there are no lifts, all in all you defo get what you pay for in this hotel i would class it as 1 star could be a good hotel if you had staff that can understand your needs as they know what you want but pretend they dont understand you and are sometimes ignorant.lots of local people just walk into hotel from roadway steps to pool and sit around the bar area which is very small for guests let alone locals and sellers who pester you around pool ,beach is 5 mins away but its a dirty shingle beach

the hotel is set down quite a steep road,it is very clean and rooms ok in size although you do get a single sheet on a double bed!The food is always served cold to warm never hot.We have been going to Turkey for 26 yrs now and we didnt think there were so many ways of cooking meatballs! If you want a cheap and cheerful holiday with basic food choices then this is for you, definately NOT 4 star.

My girlfriend and I were one of the many stunned guests that stayed at the Eken Resort in April 09. I say stunned because judging by some of the reviews available to read prior to our stay at the hotel, you'd expect the Eken Resort to be a Turkish prison camp!
The hotel is perfectly pleasent. Good size rooms, spotlessly clean, tasty and healthy food, helpful staff, good pool area and good location. I didn't see any dodgy carpets, or mountainous staircases. If the carpets were replaced with tiling, as one reviewer suggests, I'm sure they'd then be moaning about the sound of footsteps passing by their room at night. And check out the photos of the hotel. It's not a giant bungalow. There will be stairs!
It certainly makes you proud to be British when you see adult guests of our homeland turning their noses up at the perfectly delicious array of Turkish salads, kebabs and other speciality dishes, in favour of a plate full of chips, 'cos they don't like anything else!' Perhaps they should pitch a tent outside a McDonald's next year!
We paid a paltry sum for the all-inclusive deal on offer, and I must admit to feeling a bit guilty at eating their food and drinking their beer on that basis. (I got over it though!)
I'm not a big fan of all-inclusive as it is detrimental to the local restaurants and bars, but we did venture out a number of times, and found Gumbet to be a splendid place. Admittedly it was right at the beginning of the season, hence not all establishments were open, but we were still made to feel welcome in all the places we visited that were up and running. Bodrum, a short bus trip away, or walk if you're feeling energetic, is an interesting, bustling place, and has an amazing marina and castle.
If you are staying at the Eken, you'll enjoy the company of Mehmet the restaurant manager, Eren and Oran the bar men, and Jay Jay the health guru. We had some professional photos taken by Oscan, and they came out brilliantly.
If you want a good quality, value holiday, then I would thoroughly recommend the Eken.
