“You get what you pay for....”
Reviewed October 10, 2011

We stayed at the Club Hotel Flora for a week at the end of September and overall it was pretty good. When we arrived the hotel was full so we got put into a suite! Being a suite it was a good size, and had a big balcony. The bathroom was big too, with a jacuzzi bath. Sounds good but it was actutally a bit passed it's best. Although it was clean, the grouting was discoloured, and the seal around the sink had gone. The room was the same. It was clean, but just needed a bit of a revamp. The paintwork was tatty, and the plug socket loose. Little things like that. We did have a double duvet though which was lucky by the sounds of it! The aircon in the room worked perfectly. The room was cleaned and the towels changed everyday, but sometimes not until 5pm so bare it in mind if you fancy a disco nap before dinner.

The food was distinctly average. It wasn't horrific, so we didn't starve but it wasn't great. Breakfast was your typical holiday buffet with cold meats, cheese and bread; with sausage and scrambled or boiled eggs. Lunch was some sort of meat stew with chips or rice and dinner the same. I will say though that there was always loads of lovely fresh salads, and couscous, cold meats and bread, so if you didn't fancy the hot (well luke warm) buffet you could always stick to the cold stuff. I think the main feeling in the dining room was that people were there because they needed to eat and not to enjoy a nice meal. There was wine available with dinner, but you could strip paint with it so be warned!

The bar by the pool was great. The beer was cold and the spirits STRONG, I had to ask them to make my G & T weaker. The two lads behind the bar were really great. They worked really hard and we're super cheerful all the time. The bar shuts bang on 11 though, so if you want a late drink you'll have to head to Gumbet centre (a few mins walk) where there are many many to choose from.

The grounds and pool areas were really lovely. You have to be really on the ball for a sunbed, but there were plently of cushions to lounge on to if you didn't get one. The pool area was always kept really clean, the spa also looked really nice although we didn't have any treatments as they are a bit pricey.

The location of the hotel was great. it was just on the end of the bay, so it's far enough away from bar street and the centre to get some sleep, but close enough so that you can walk to the action easily.

The beach at the front of the hotel was crap, but if you just walk around the bay a little there are a million beach bars to choose from and they all have free sunbeds if you buy a drink. I have to recommend Cozy bar. They have a lovely bit of the beach and really nice cushions to lounge on.

One of the worst things about the hotel was the daily visit from the owner of the Tempo restaurant. Everyday he came around to hassle us to go and try his place, we said we would, but then a couple of other guests said not to bother as it wasn't great, so we didn't go and he got really arsey with us when we said it was our last day and we weren't going.

Overall i'd say the hotel was average. The lovely pool area and the location were the best bits. The food and the tattiness the worst. We didn't pay a fortune though so I think it was what I expected. I don't think I would stay here again, mainly because I think next time I would go self catering. It's so cheap to eat out (Windy Bay and The Mistral are excellent for steak) I think i'd rather do that.

Room Tip: If you can get a free upgrade to a suite then great, but it's not worth paying extra

Nice little Hotel. We stayed 24th September until 4th October. Pool area was very nice although a bit cramped...nice balconies and gardens......sunbeds were an issue very limited with holiday makers reserving at very early hours of the morning with most reserved by 7am...they must have been putting their towels out when they arrived back at night......sort it out club flora. If you could not get a sunbed by the pool they have their own private part of the beach.
Food was ample with lots of salad, veg, rice, pasta, meat, soups and desserts.
Drinks were available most of the day with fruit juice, water, tea, coffee, wines and lethal alcoholic drinks which were gin, vodka, raki and beer.....they seemed to pour the alcohol drinks in 50/50 measures.
Our room was fairly modern and value for what we paid although we were at the back of the hotel with just 2 windows and looking out to fence...we were should have asked for a but don't spend your holiday in your room so bothered us that much. The room was cleaned every day with fresh towels which was good.
Staff were always pleasent.....bar staff very friendly.
Location was at the end of the resort so quiet.....the shops restuarants and bars were a short walk away.
Over all a very pleasant stay.....good value for money

Room Tip: flag down a dolamus ( mini bus) they are only £1 to most local places....taxis charge about £8-£10

Need to work on the all inclusive concept. Need more choice in the drinks department, food needs a little more variety and warming up or two or three microwaves need to be available.

f I could sum the hotel up in a sentence it'd be, "excellent value for money if you get it at a cheap price".

I want to give it a good rating, but I just can't probably 3.5/5.0.

Reception - Afternoon and night workers were excellent, we were given a bit of dodgy advice by the morning bloke, but that aside he was friendly enough. Check in and check out hassle free and quick.

Room -

Positives - Far enough back to not be overly bothered by the pool bar music (room 410), and clean with fresh towels daily. Bed was comfy for me, although my other half found it hard. Aircon worked perfectly, as most of the appliances such as hairdryer etc.

Negatives - Bed only had 3 flat pillows, and despite asking for another one wasn't given one. Bedsheet was a single bedsheet on a double bed (as others have said), we ended up buying a double one for about a fiver as it was obvious we weren't going to get a better one again despite asking (suites had double duvets). No plug for the sink, and the toilet was a bit dodgy but workable. But these are minor kinks. Oh and the TV didn't work, but we weren't bothered.

Food - Breakfast was very samey - 3 different kind of rolls, hard boiled eggs (occassionally scrambled), Chips, foreign style Sausages and cheese. They did have honey and jam for the some bread as well. Lunch and Dinner always had something to please everyone, although you had to be there for the start of the meals otherwise they'd often run out. Usually they'd have a chicken or lamb dish with rice or cous cous, and again chips, but if you want "British" style pub grub, this isn't your hotel.

Pool and Bar -

Pool was small, but always available for a swim. Loungers were at a premium, but their physically isn't space for any more. One gripe was that sun loungers seemed to be reserved by people from as early at 10pm the previous night even though they weren't around the pool (although someone obviously had enough and complained, as they were removed one night by the hotel cleaner and left beside the bar). Had they moved there towels while they weren't there, there would have been enough for everyone.

Bar was manned by Alex and Sayid who both worked what seemed 12 hour days. Both were always happy and you will never lack for alcohol, the measures were a bit strong (Raki, Vodka and Gin). The beer was 'Troy' but again drinkable.

Location - At the end of the beach near Bodrum and the Windmills can be seen from the pool. The dolmus (both Orange and Blue) stop right outside the hotel and all go to Bodrum. The beach at Gumbet was a bit disappointing, but Bitez is a tenner away (round trip) by taxi which has a wonderful beach. The beach at Flora seemed particularly disappointing, we even saw one man cut his foot on this part of the beach.

Wish I read the review about the shaver before I went, as one day I returned to find mine a bit shall we say... sticky. I didn't think too much of it and just washed it down. It was the same old lady and young girl.

If you don't like cats, i'd suggest staying somewhere else as well, I think I counted 5 cats and 3 kittens at this hotel. In fact Gumbet in general seemed to have lots of cats all along the promenade.

One thing I did find annoying was on the beach front, the amount of PR people not leaving you alone, whether it be for boat trips, turkish baths or just simply eating. Saying no once should be enough, always look to see if somewhere is full, the fuller it is, the better it'll generally be.

Tips.
Beach - Bitez, much better than Gumbet and quieter too

Restaurant - Kafedaki, overlooks the whole of Gumbet, breathtaking views and service. 1 day reservation needed, but ask at reception, they'll organise a free shuttle too and from. It is a little more expensive probably about £30 a head including 2 courses and wine. But well worth it if your looking for a special meal.

Do not go to Tempo which is recommended by the Hotel, you will be disappointed.

Boat Trips - There are plenty about, we went with Hotel Baba, but they didn't go to the hot springs or black island which they only informed us of once we were at sea. But they did drop sail and have about a half hour of the most relaxing journey. Sami's boat trip or Harry's boat trip did look good as well though.

And finally Exchange rates - Bodrum banks were about .10 higher than any change places.

Would I return to Flora? Probably not. It just didn't do enough

Room Tip: Block 400 or 500 seemed to be far enough away from the pool bar to be considered as quieter.

We recently stayed at Club Flora for a week to chill out in the sun.
Before travelling we had read very mixed reviews about the hotel.
Our room was on the ground floor with terrace overlloking the pool. It was compact and sparcely furnished but was cleaned daily. We had like many other guests problems with no warm water in the mornings but it was fine during the day and evening. We also had an issue with the bed covers. Each single bed in our room was covered with only a SMALL wafffle cover. I asked several people for a sheet to go over us as well but sadly I failed in my mission!
The hotel was set in small but pretty grounds. The pool was always clean and only 1.5m deep which was good for me. I did notice though that the small plastic tables around the pool were never cleaned during our stay, fortunately the rain one day washed them!
The hotel is well placed at the end of the bay and just over the road opposite the beach. It was a short walk to the shops or other bars and restaurants along the promnade.
The dolmus to Bodrum stopped just outside the hotel and took around 10 minutes to get to the bus station and market area. There is a marina and castle (which is closed on Mondays) shops and bars are plentiful.
The food was ok. We always found something to eat at mealtimes. The fish we had on 2 occasions was delicious. Chips, chicken and a good variety of salads were usually available!
People must remember when staying at places like the Flora it is after all only a 3* Turkish hotel. You get what you pay for. If you want more choice and better facilities you need to pay for it and stay in 4/5* hotels.
We would not return here but not because we didn't enjoy our holiday but we always like to try different places each holiday.

Stayed at the Flora for a week 12th sept 2011, all in all had a good week there, was put in a room first night after arriving about 21.45pm and was really disappointed, no balcony and no door out to a terrace, just two windows looking out at a wall and fence 3 feet away, even next morning it was still dark in the room, after going to reception and asking if we could be moved to an apartment with a balcony they kindly said no problem and moved us by 1pm that same day. 100% better room on first floor overlooking pool, The food was very good bags of choice drinks was ok if you like gin vodka or beer, The hotel itself is very good and clean but we had a problem with our cleaner, one of them was using my electric shaver on some part of her body, this happened twice while we were there, i told the girl on reception and she said she would look into it, but im putting it on here incase she did,nt so lock your shavers away, just like to say we were in room 611 and the cleaners were an older lady and a young girl, all the other cleaners seemed very nice. You are about 2 mins walk from the beach, each hotel on the front has a slice of beach, the Flora just dont do enough did,nt see anyone cleaning it and only a few sun bed cushions where next door had a big cage full of them which we had to nick. Would i stay here again ? even though its a good hotel with good food, i would have to say No, theres just to many little things that spoil it, and why should i stay at the Flora when i can walk 2 mins down the road and stay at the Tropicano thats got everything, good rooms good food good beach with cushions and cleaned every day, entertainment every night, and cleaners thats got there own shavers.

Had a lovely two weeks at this hotel. Room clean and spacious, plenty of wardrobe space, and most importantly, AIR CONDITIONED! Nice balcony for sitting out or hanging swim stuff to dry. Maids did a good job cleaning every day. We noticed a couple of times they'd been through bags we'd left in the room, but nothing was ever taken. Safes are available in the hotel but they were quite pricey.

Food was lovely. There is a wide choice of hot and cold starters, mains and deserts, with different dishes each night. Not all the food will be to your taste but there was always enough choice to find something good to eat. The all inclusive pool bar was good too, and the bar staff very friendly.

Gumbet is very close by and has plenty of shops, bars and places to eat. We stayed for two weeks and only had one evening meal out because the food at Hotel Flora was better than the restaurant food we tried!

The only downside of the hotel we found was the hot water in our room was a bit temperamental. In the mornings we were unable to get hot water at all, and in the evenings it varied between luke warm and piping hot. We spoke to the manager and she said it was just the block we stayed in that had this issue. Even so, if you timed your showers right it was not a problem!

We stayed from 5-19th September, and this seemed a good time of year to go. Not too much trouble getting sun loungers round the pool, and temperatures were cool enough that you could go out and do stuff during the day (and there is lots to do in this area!).
