Excuse my delay for writing this review, my daughter and I stayed here June 2012. There are so many negative comments to say about this hotel I don't know where to start!!
Firstly I have to say we got this all inclusive hotel at a knock down price and rightly so! definitely a 1* if that! On arrival during the early hours the very rude receptionist said he couldn't find our booking even though I had the confirmation and then made us wait and wait and wait! 2 hours later and after a further 6-10 people had been checked in and given their room, when I asked him what was happening he said he was waiting for the manager to ring him back. so after a further 30 minute wait (by this time it was 3am) some people who had checked in earlier came back to reception saying they were not gonna stay in the room theyd been given and suddenly the receptionist said we have your room ready for you! yes it was the same one they had refused to stay in!, round the back of the hotel resembling a prison camp with a door which didn't lock, dirty slept in bed (used by the staff) and disgusting bathroom. By this time I was too tired to argue telling my daughter just to get some sleep and we would sort it in the morning, which we did and were offered a different room which wasn't too much better except the area. no working air-con, filthy mattress and pillows and dirty sheets too! bathroom was the size of a cupboard, fridge and telly didn't work and lighting was such of a candle! we came to the conclusion after hearing all the comments from other people, that all the rooms were the same so we stayed put. Mealtimes were crazy but food was good. Pool area was tiny and no sunbeds were available even though they were all broken, towels were left out there all night so you couldn't even bag one early in the morning! we had to buy a lilo to lay on in the end!
I could go on and on and on but I think you get the general idea! However we found the entertainment staff to be ok and activities around the pool were fun. After a few days of settling in and catching up on sleep we became accustomed to the awful surroundings and decided that we had to laugh and joke about it which we did and it strangely made our holiday a hilarious one! Gumbet centre was about a 15-20 minute walk (not 10 minutes as stated on the websites)and was lively and fun. Free wi-fi at the hotel was the only good thing and that kept us sane! The second pool at the bottom of all the horrendous steps was nice for a change and the beach too but again shortage of sunbeds and even more steps! alright going down but a killer to climb in 40 degree heat!
if you've read all the reviews and know what to expect and get it at a cheap price then as long as you just use it as a base then go for it! but don't expect luxury or even standard accommodation as its very very below standard. Cleaners bang on the door at silly hours of the morning just to mop the floor and change towels, the beds were not changed for the whole week we were there! In my view this hotel should be shut down - simple!
