Firstly our apologies to staff at the Agar apartments for any mispelt names. A big Hi to all the staff from room 306 25/08/2012.
Agar Apartments:-
Our first visit to Gumbet and the Agar Apartments. Apartment was of a good size for two people.with plenty of room in both bedroom and lounge area, which contained a table and four chairs and sofa. Loads of storage for clothing in bedroom including dressing table and bedside cabinets. Comfortable bed and plenty of powerpoints for hairdryer (not supplied by the way)and charging of mobiles, ipods etc. Kitchen was extremely well equipped (compared with other apartments we have stayed in over 7yrs visiting Turkey) with many cabinets for food storage and a wide choice of utensils, pans, bowls and crockery. An under workbench fridge with freezer compartment. Bathroom on the small size, but hey no one stops in a bathroom. The shower was very powerful and always had hot water, if required, due to solar power to each block. Towels and bedlinen were changed every three days with bins being emptied every day. Toilet rolls supplied as and when required. The apartments were very clean on arrival and throughout our stay and after witnessing the extremely hard work put in by the two cleaners over the two weeks it was easy to see why. The Air Con is situated in the main lounge but we found this to be the better option as there was no noise problems or sore, dry throats to contend with and the bedrooms stayed cool throughout the night. We were in a room adjacent to the pool bar and found no problems with noise etc. The gardens and apartment blocks were well maintained and the kitchen area very clean and easily viewable by guests. The BBQ night is a must. We paid £10 a head for the night and got a fantastic meal. Servings were very plentiful and extremely tasty with many and varied local cuisine to try. Breakdancers were fun and the very good looking female belly dancer a pleasant bonus (Lads beware because you could end up joining in which doesn't look good at my age and with my figure when reviewing photos back in blighty!) The food here is well priced, tasty and varied from poolside snacks to evening meals.
Staff:-
ALL of the Agar's staff were very friendly. From the owners, Mary and Alvin, down to the cleaners, maintenance guys and kitchen staff. All of them would take time to speak with you if you made the effort to talk with them, even though neither party really knew what the other was saying on occasions!
On arriving at 1am our first contact was with (ALREET!) Ahmet (Bar Manager) who showed us into our apartment and then on us popping down to the bar for bottled water offered to make us something to eat if required. Time out to say a big hello to Margaret, Ahmets lovely Scottish wife over on a visit, hope you are well. We found Ahmet to be extremely friendly, courteous and approachable over our whole holiday and never found him to be pushy or unfriendly. Every day on starting work Ahmet made the point of walking around the pool area saying hello and talking to the guests. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him and he went out of his way to please you (Thanks for the second TV so we could watch the game around the pool bar Ahmet mate!) Hope the Sunderland top is now up on display. "Happy" we met the following day. Mainly working in the bar he became a good pal over our holiday. Again always eager to help and please the guests he was the young ladies favourite! We can see him blushing now. "Happy" stick in at University and you will reach your goal mate. Kennan was also very amicable and helpful and always happy to help in any way. Mary and Alvin the owners were so helpful over our two weeks and would take time out to make sure everythng was up to scratch for their guests. Never too busy to answer any queries or deal with any problems which arose they provided a great service overall and if you require any help with regards trips, days out, places to visit etc speak with them first to get unbiased advice.
Location And Resort:-
The Agar apartments are situated within 10 mins walk of the main resort area. Numerous bars and restaurants line the main route through Gumbet and "Bar Street" caters for the more energetic a night owls out there. We found most of the restaurants pretty similiar with regards menu and nearly all were very reasonably priced. Our favourites were "The Sammi Plaza" for local cuisine. "The Columbia"for steaks. "The Red Dragon for a great English/Irish breakfast. Gumbet has a pleasant promenade to walk at night with bars and restaurants a plenty to suit various tastes. With plenty of shops to choose from don't forget to haggle for that better price.
To finish we would just like to say we enjoyed our stay at the Agar immenseley and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. Visit Bitez beach for a relaxing day out. A boat trip is a must, speak with Mary or Alvin for booking. Bodrum worth a visit but slightly more expensive and more "Hassle" from shopkeepers etc. Visit "Oasis" shopping ctre (15 mins walk from Agar) for genuine goods, light and airy, hassle free shopping and a change from the local shops in Gumbet.
Alvin and Mary you have an establishment AND staff to be proud of. we hope the Agar goes from strength to strength and we hope some day to return to see you again. With love and fond memories. Jackie n Stu xxx

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have a larger balcony area for "chilling out" on if required.

My boyfriend and i have Just come back from the agar apartments after two weeks, apartments are very big and equipped with everything you need to cook. Apartments are in perfect location, central to everything, not near any main roads, really quiet. All the staff are really helpful and friendly especially Mary and Kanin nothing was to much trouble for them. Food at the apartments are really nice especially the Sunday roast cooked by Mary, it was out of this world, I highly recommend it. Pool is clean and good size, loads of sun beds although sometimes you got to be up early to put your towels down. we meet some lovely people there and made some good friends, would recommend these apartments to couples or families as made to suit all.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask not to be put by bar.

We spent 2 weeks at the Agar in August, myself, husband and 3 boys aged 15,12,8. I have to say I was slightly disappointed with the apartments in general. We were expecting much better considering they are rated #1 in Gumbet! As we have not stayed in Turkey before I have nothing to compare them to there, but against apartments in other countries they are not that great! The rooms are big but the furniture and decor is tired and shabby, there was an awful 'sewage' smell coming from the bathroom and the shower was not the best, but adequate I suppose. The bedrooms were cleaned, but not to a high standard, the kitchen was not very well equipped but we ate all our meals out anyway because it was so cheap. The food at the Agar is good and the staff are all friendly (especially Kenan and Happy) We were above the restaurant which was probably the worst room to have as it is at the front of the block - directly opposite the Orange Apartments which are popular with Club 18-30 holidaymakers...need I say more? The air con didnt work in our apartment-despite paying for it- and it was 40+ degrees so we had to have our windows open, the noise from the Orange Apts went on til gone 2am some nights, not good!! The kids were disappointed in there not being a Table Tennis table, despite it being advertised. Apart from the pool table there was nothing else for older kids to do (there is a litte play area for younger ones) except the swimming pool. The lighting around the pool bar in the evenings was 'ambient' so you couldnt see to play cards or other games. We enjoyed the weekly pool parties but apart from karaoke and a very expensive Turkish night (with good breakdancers a shockingly bad belly dancer) there was no other entertainment on site. The Bar is ok but rather expensive, and I found the Bar Manager rather annoying if I am honest. Happy Hour meant 2 for 1 on cocktails, but they had to be the same cocktail and they weren't really 2 for 1 because they are half the price on Bar Street anyway! These apartments may be better suited to families with small children or older couples but they were not right for us and we wouldnt stay again. That said, Turkey as a holiday destination is great - very cheap and nice people (mostly) and we had a great holiday. The are conveniently situated near to Bar Street, the beach and shops -where haggling is a must! The weather was glorious, not a single cloud in 2 weeks and we we had some lovely evenings out - I recommend Jacks Place and Uncle Festers restaurants nearby for dinner. Go to the big market at Bodrum for all your 'designer' bargains! We booked a boat trip through Peter Pan excursions which was probably the highlight of our holiday, and when you go to the beach do the 'Sonar' at the watersports place, it is great fun!

Room Tip: ask for a ground floor room as they have nice big balconies.

This will of been our umpteenth time here,Mary and Elvin ar really lovely , we are like family now nothing is to much of a bother for them, it is lovely to keep going back and seeing the same friendly faces of guests past and hopefully present . Every year my family and I keep thinking we may try somewhere different , but it's safe to say it never happens. The Agar is a lovely clean place to stay , it's just a little set back from all the hustle and bustle of bar st, the restaurants are lovely and the people are very accommodating in gum bet. the hotel does boat trips which are far cheaper than booking them through the reps. If you have never been to Turkey Gumbet you and would like to stay somewhere safe and sound then checkout the Agar , you will not be disappointed , you will find the accommodation with thompson now not Thomas cook. Enjoy I know we do !!!!

we arrived early sat morning 25/8/12 to be greeted by ahmed and just like to say what a friendly guy he is he asked us if we needed anything to eat or drink as it was after 2am in morning this was a great start to our first time in gumbet, after being showed to our rooms things were getting better rooms very big for studio's with all you need and air con in living room which was good as there was no dry throats and noise but still cool. we stayed in room 305 not far from bar there was no late noise to hear. all staff are friendly just like to give happy a mention works very hard behind that bar and always has time for you also like to say a special thanks to the cleaners who work none stop don't no how one review said there room wasn't cleaned the only way that would happen is if they wouldn't let the cleaners in keep up the good work. the grounds and the pool area spotless and as other reviews say not far from everything. well done alvin ,mary and sofia you have a good set up hope you don't have to colour that last green dot in. thanks from ken and fiona

Room Tip: all good rooms a bit better on top floor for views
