In early September we've spent a couple of weeks at Velena for a second year in a row. It was just lovely. I can't comment about the peak season but in September, once maddening crowds are gone, it is a very pleasant experience. Yes it is modest, but it does not claim to be Mandarin Oriental. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food is really nice. Oya's magic with all types of Tukish pastry and pasta dishes is another bonus. Watching the full moon rise over the hills while enjoying fresh fish and raki on the little pier is priceless. And finally, the staff is their greatest assett. They are very friendly while still managing to be respectful. My 87 year old mother and 82 year old mother in law are treated like queens. Hopefully we will be back again next year.
