Turihan Hotel

Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

This is my second stay at this hotel and I still love it, had a minor issue with the receptionist but this was resolved, room was cleaned daily and had a lovely sunny balcony, food was beautiful and fresh everyday, breakfast had a lot of choice from fresh fruit, omelettes, cereal and hot foods which changed daily also olives and pastries. The bar staff tuna and memet were very friendly all the time, I like this hotel because the staff arnt pushy and annoying just happy and welcoming. The pool area was cleaned everyday and was always very peaceful. The hotel is in a great location. Bars and restaurants surrounding it and a 5 mins walk from bar street. Roy's place was a good night with karaoke and the staff there are friendly too. The hotel has a shop which is well priced and has all the essentials you would need from drinks to tooth paste..

I love this hotel and am always sad to leave! Booking again for June :)

If anyone has any questions about the hotel or area I would be more then happy to help :)

Have a great stay!

We first stayed @Turihan in may 2012.I did put my review about hotel back then.Since then we been back to Gumbet 3 times.been stayin in different hotels, but always spend our days in Turihan beach, had lunches there and sometimes came for drinks in the evening. It is really good place to stay, beautiful hotel, outstanding food, reasonably priced drinks, nice atmosphere, very comfortable sunloungers on beach. And they do the best iced coffee in Gumbet!People who work there are lovely and very professional, exspecially Mehmet,he is the coolest guy ever, nothing is to much trouble for him.We are just about to book our next trip to Gumbet in may 2014 and we definetly will be staying in Turihan!

Cleaning was terrible, was there for 2 weeks and the sheets were never changed, they did reverse them and turn them over but i still knew they were the same ones as id got a small mark on them. inside shower was dirty with mould ect. staff are friendly and food ok but i wont stay here again.

Room Tip: higher floors get more light as ground floor rooms are in shadow but nice and cool.

This was a return visit to the Turihan. This is a small three star Turkish hotel located on the beach on the the edge of Gumbet. Gumbet is very popular (noisy, vibrant holiday location for Northern Europeans), close to Bodrum, which is a chic resort popular a wide range of holiday makers including the rich and famous from Istanbul. Breakfast was a combination of Turkish and British cooked, last years we had a form of bacon and beans that were missing this year. This year we had sausages instead, I liked the bacon and beans better. The rest of breakfast followed the usual fare of; fried or boiled eggs, omelettes, a wide range of fruit, cereals, bread, meats, cheese, yoghurt, preserves, tea coffee and juices, generally it was very good. Dinner was good, but at the end of two weeks we thought that it started to lack variety. Rooms vary from the small to the reasonable sized, the best are the ground floor rooms. The hotel has a small pool, which is a uniform 1.6m deep, so not ideal for very small children. It's own beach area, restaurant and bar. The al a carte menu has good food reasonably priced, we had very good meals on several occasions. Large beers are £2 this year and represent good value, as they are brilliantly cold. Staff are really great, if a little over familiar, but this is what many Brits like. The hotel also has a small shop selling crips, drinks, ice creams, newspapers, books etc. The staff keep the hotel rooms and public area very clean, the outside area cleaner spends all day keeping these areas neat and tidy. Room towels are changed on request (leave on floor), bedding is changed every two days. The Hotel has a good WiFi system. Each room has air con and TVs, hair dryers and safes, they hotel advertises that the WiFi and safes have a small additional charge. The hotel does suffer from some noise from Gumbet until 3am when the bars close and from the neighbouring hotel during the day. The hotel as a Turkish bath area and massage, we used it on several occasions this year and it was first class and sensibly priced. Overall we rate this small Turkish Hotel as very good, but it is a reasonable priced 3 star hotel so be realistic about your expectations. We a very likely to return to the Turihan, next year.

Myself and my best friend (two 21 year old girls) stayed in this hotel for a week in June 2013. I have nothing but good things to say about the whole experience. We were made to feel at home from the moment we got there in the middle of the night. Reception staff were lovely and helpful. Our room was basic and the tv and fridge may have been a little outdated but we werent there to watch tv and everything we needed to use worked just fine.
We spent everyday on the free sun loungers on turihans part of the gumbet bay beach and had bar service straight to the beach if we wanted it. It was fantastic!
The hotel is extremely handy to anything you need - restaurants, shops, the minibus to bodrum and most importantly the bars and clubs.
Special mentions would have to be for Mehmet and Serhan! The holiday wouldnt have been the same without them at the hotel. Great atmosphere at the hotel bar every night but not rowdy so I would imagine that all age groups would enjoy it and the great selection of drinks and cocktails for very reasonable prices!

Great hotel, great staff, great location, great holiday!!!
You get what you pay for and I would definitely love to visit again!

Thanks Turihan!

Encouraged by the numerous good reviews for this hotel, I chose it for my 2013 summer holiday with my two children. Unfortunately I was disappointed in many respect:

1. Our room was large but too plain for a 3-star hotel.
2. The bathroom was small and in terrible state (see photos). It stank of mold.
3. The air conditioning was weak, it leaked (see photo) and occasionally made sounds of a helicopter about to fall, spitting tar (see photo).
4. There were just two TV channels: a religious Philipino channel and France 24! Not even Turkish channels were present! At first they promised to fix the satellite reception within 3 days but eventually the manager had to admit that this woudn't happen at all!
5. The room was cleaned very superficially and only in late afternoon hours. After a week the shower sink was full of hairs which obviously no-one had bothered to remove.
6. Each of the two bedrooms had a window looking at an inner hallway used by the personnel only. You could smell kitchen, cigarette smoke and hear all the noise the staff were making during work. This was particularly annoying in the evening hours.
7. The waiters' attitude was strange: the main waiter did almost nothing but greet the guests and try (unsuccessfully) to be funny. Another waiter was very efficient if he didn't like you, he didn't bother to say hello.
8. Many times I had to tell the waiters that some dishes were finished on the buffet - no-one seemed to check what was going on.
9. The dining area was too hot. Fans were hanging from the ceiling but inexplicably they could not be used.
10. The choice of deserts was poor. I normally like Turkish sweets but these were not up to the usual standard. We had to settle for the fruit.
11. The hotel beach is crammed and unimpressive. Luckily there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity with nicer beaches. They all offer free sunbeds and umbrellas which they compensate through inflated prices of food and drinks.

Here are the few positive points:

1. Close to the minibus station. A ride to Bodrum takes 20 minutes on average (can vary a lot depending on traffic). Price: 30 lire per person in one direction.
2. The food was tasty. Although there were just two main dishes to choose from (always meat), 15 side dishes and salads made the choice more interesting. The menu started repeating after a week though.
3. The sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach are free.
5. Dinner was served on the beach. Too bad that there were just 3-4 candlelights for a dozen tables.

To sum it up, the Turihan hotel would need a better management in order to live up to its 3-star category. At the moment you can expect a 2 star service only. There are just too many things that don't work.

A few notes about the area. The city of Bodrum is busy but nice, certainly much classier and more interesting than Gümbet where we stayed. The choice in the shopping district is a bit repetitive - fake watches, clothes and bags everywhere you look. Bodrum marina is very elegant, a bit like an open-air airport mall. In the harbour there are many good restaurants to choose from.

It's worth visiting the fortress in the Bodrum marina withj its Museum of Underwater Archeology. A relaxed tour will take 2-3 hours.

Note that the sea is generally not impressive in Gümbet. The beach in the city of Bodrum, immediately behind all the shops, is much nicer - the water is somewhat deeper and has a nice blue colour that's missing in Gümbet. Unfortunately the Bodrum beach is very narrow and hence always crowded.

Room Tip: Don't go to room S-1.

First, the negatives:
The rooms are not in a good shape. The cleaning was frequent but not thorough, the paintwork is shabby, the furniture is chipped. The plumbing is poor - in each of the three rooms used by my group, some of the plumbing leaked. The shower door fell off. The air-conditioning in one room was flaky (despite repeated attempts at maintenance).

The hotel itself doesn't play loud music, but then how could they, with the thumping beats from the Asarlik next door sounding loud and clear through the Turihan from 11am to 11:15pm?

Now the positives:
Great location, with the beach just a step out of the bar, and we enjoyed dinner on the beach, and breakfast overlooking the bay.

A good breakfast - all the Turkish standards, plus cereals, coffee, good fruit, made-to-order omelettes, fresh bread etc.

Decent bar and restaurant.

A small but OK pool, as long as you can swim (since it is all one depth, and you need to be over 5'10"/178cm to stand up in it).

Staff are polite and helpful.

Overall, not a bad hotel, just the rooms are distinctly 2*, and the music from the Asarlik got on my nerves.
