Reviewed September 11, 2013

Myself and my best friend (two 21 year old girls) stayed in this hotel for a week in June 2013. I have nothing but good things to say about the whole experience. We were made to feel at home from the moment we got there in the middle of the night. Reception staff were lovely and helpful. Our room was basic and the tv and fridge may have been a little outdated but we werent there to watch tv and everything we needed to use worked just fine.
We spent everyday on the free sun loungers on turihans part of the gumbet bay beach and had bar service straight to the beach if we wanted it. It was fantastic!
The hotel is extremely handy to anything you need - restaurants, shops, the minibus to bodrum and most importantly the bars and clubs.
Special mentions would have to be for Mehmet and Serhan! The holiday wouldnt have been the same without them at the hotel. Great atmosphere at the hotel bar every night but not rowdy so I would imagine that all age groups would enjoy it and the great selection of drinks and cocktails for very reasonable prices!

Great hotel, great staff, great location, great holiday!!!
You get what you pay for and I would definitely love to visit again!

Thanks Turihan!

Encouraged by the numerous good reviews for this hotel, I chose it for my 2013 summer holiday with my two children. Unfortunately I was disappointed in many respect:

1. Our room was large but too plain for a 3-star hotel.
2. The bathroom was small and in terrible state (see photos). It stank of mold.
3. The air conditioning was weak, it leaked (see photo) and occasionally made sounds of a helicopter about to fall, spitting tar (see photo).
4. There were just two TV channels: a religious Philipino channel and France 24! Not even Turkish channels were present! At first they promised to fix the satellite reception within 3 days but eventually the manager had to admit that this woudn't happen at all!
5. The room was cleaned very superficially and only in late afternoon hours. After a week the shower sink was full of hairs which obviously no-one had bothered to remove.
6. Each of the two bedrooms had a window looking at an inner hallway used by the personnel only. You could smell kitchen, cigarette smoke and hear all the noise the staff were making during work. This was particularly annoying in the evening hours.
7. The waiters' attitude was strange: the main waiter did almost nothing but greet the guests and try (unsuccessfully) to be funny. Another waiter was very efficient if he didn't like you, he didn't bother to say hello.
8. Many times I had to tell the waiters that some dishes were finished on the buffet - no-one seemed to check what was going on.
9. The dining area was too hot. Fans were hanging from the ceiling but inexplicably they could not be used.
10. The choice of deserts was poor. I normally like Turkish sweets but these were not up to the usual standard. We had to settle for the fruit.
11. The hotel beach is crammed and unimpressive. Luckily there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity with nicer beaches. They all offer free sunbeds and umbrellas which they compensate through inflated prices of food and drinks.

Here are the few positive points:

1. Close to the minibus station. A ride to Bodrum takes 20 minutes on average (can vary a lot depending on traffic). Price: 30 lire per person in one direction.
2. The food was tasty. Although there were just two main dishes to choose from (always meat), 15 side dishes and salads made the choice more interesting. The menu started repeating after a week though.
3. The sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach are free.
5. Dinner was served on the beach. Too bad that there were just 3-4 candlelights for a dozen tables.

To sum it up, the Turihan hotel would need a better management in order to live up to its 3-star category. At the moment you can expect a 2 star service only. There are just too many things that don't work.

A few notes about the area. The city of Bodrum is busy but nice, certainly much classier and more interesting than Gümbet where we stayed. The choice in the shopping district is a bit repetitive - fake watches, clothes and bags everywhere you look. Bodrum marina is very elegant, a bit like an open-air airport mall. In the harbour there are many good restaurants to choose from.

It's worth visiting the fortress in the Bodrum marina withj its Museum of Underwater Archeology. A relaxed tour will take 2-3 hours.

Note that the sea is generally not impressive in Gümbet. The beach in the city of Bodrum, immediately behind all the shops, is much nicer - the water is somewhat deeper and has a nice blue colour that's missing in Gümbet. Unfortunately the Bodrum beach is very narrow and hence always crowded.

Room Tip: Don't go to room S-1.

First, the negatives:
The rooms are not in a good shape. The cleaning was frequent but not thorough, the paintwork is shabby, the furniture is chipped. The plumbing is poor - in each of the three rooms used by my group, some of the plumbing leaked. The shower door fell off. The air-conditioning in one room was flaky (despite repeated attempts at maintenance).

The hotel itself doesn't play loud music, but then how could they, with the thumping beats from the Asarlik next door sounding loud and clear through the Turihan from 11am to 11:15pm?

Now the positives:
Great location, with the beach just a step out of the bar, and we enjoyed dinner on the beach, and breakfast overlooking the bay.

A good breakfast - all the Turkish standards, plus cereals, coffee, good fruit, made-to-order omelettes, fresh bread etc.

Decent bar and restaurant.

A small but OK pool, as long as you can swim (since it is all one depth, and you need to be over 5'10"/178cm to stand up in it).

Staff are polite and helpful.

Overall, not a bad hotel, just the rooms are distinctly 2*, and the music from the Asarlik got on my nerves.

This hotel is on the best part of the beach strip in my opinion. The room was pretty basic. Wasn't too impressed with the broken shower door which knocked me on the head! Told reception and they got someone to 'fix' it and then when I went back to see how they fixed it, it was still the same. In the end I put the door back on myself! Wasn't even some technical thing so never know how they didn't manage to put it on themselves but hey. Plug socket for the hairdryer was completely out of the wall with wires showing too which was really unsafe. The bin was not clean (it had poo on it). The food isn't all that either. However, despite all of this the holiday was brill and the staff are LOVELY. Wasn't entirely fussed about lack care in the hotel rooms etc as we were hardly in there anyway and also had B&B. Will definitely go back again!

This hotel classed has a 3 *** but from my experience it just about a 2 **,it needs a lot of updating to some rooms, cleaning could be better in rooms, and in some rooms at top very very noisey at night you can hear the disco's from inside till 4 in morning you have been warned.
On a positive note the breakfast and bar staff are 5 ***** and work very hard, great lads.

Room Tip: book bottom rooms near pool quieter

We usually stay at other hotels in Gumbet, but gave this one a go as it was a good deal and very cheap. The hotel is right next to the sea and in the middle of Gumbet, so location wise is great.

It is also very quiet and hassle free. There are no loud tourists stumbling around, or staff trying to get you to get up and dance etc. In fact, the staff were all very friendly and nice! The beer is also cheap as far as Gumbet prices go.

One or two things that could be improved are firstly the towels. I had quite a few dirty ones, however they were replaced with no problem. Also, they charge 3 Euros a day for wifi (if you want wifi) which I thought was quite unnecessary - why can't it be free? Lastly, the toilet was not the cleanest and the drains did smell a bit. However, it wasn't the end of the world and for the price you pay, I would definitely visit this hotel again.

Worth the money, great location.

Room Tip: We had one on the ground floor near the pool. There seemed to be nicer rooms with balconies upstairs...

Was very happy I choose this hotel....great location, helpful and friendly staff and comfortable for my needs. Took my 16yr old daughter and we had a lovely time here, near bar street and shopping and right on the beach.Hotel a little tired in parts but had room right by the pool, cleaned daily and towels and sheets replaced as well. Requested ground floor room and got one, reception staff polite and helpful, bar and restaurant staff super couldn't do enough for us. The beach is pebbly and not the cleanest in Turkey as there were many stray dogs which was very sad.I would recommend this hotel as it offers all for a lovely holiday. Breakfast very good choice and bacon, sausage and eggs served daily.Went on a couple of trips which I don't recommend......the Dreamgirls(2 middle aged trannies doing a very boring caberet act which was very dated and a boat trip booked at Harry's was so boring and too long.Turkish night in hotel very good.
