“Good Hotel - Great Location”
Reviewed May 22, 2010

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Bodrum and staying in the El vino contributed greatly to this fabulous trip....A very good hotel, and in the best location in the resort. As others have written an oasis in the middle of Bodrum. Far enough out to get a good nights sleep, but central enough to be near everything. A 20-25 minute stroll to the beautiful harbour and all the action....the hotel is located in a residential area, local life is all around which was also a lovely experience to chat to friendly locals...and bars and restaurants are not too far away.

Deniz the manager and Pelin his assistant were a joy to meet every day. And could not be more helpfull and friendly each time we met. This to us was the highlight of our stay as they made us feel like old friends with their genuine warmth and hospitality...

As a former airline employee, I have traveled all over the world. My stay at the El Vino in Bodrum (one of Turkey’s most magical cities) was one of the nicest hotel experiences I have ever had. Our last evening, we sat on the rooftop restaurant enjoying a fine glass of Turkish wine (don’t forget that the ancestors of these Turkish people were making good wines before the French even knew what it was.) The sun slowly set over the Bodrum castle in the distance and as we watched, the castle lights came on and defined it above the City and the Aegean in the background.

The hotel is not directly on the seashore, a clear advantage to my way of thinking as the waterfront, although delightful, tends to be very busy, crowded and a shade “touristy”. The hotel on the other hand is nestled on the hillside above the City. It is quiet, peaceful, beautifully laid out with some of the finest in hotel interior décor I have seen. Our suite was adjacent to the pool and outdoor breakfast area; there were leven little niches in the beautiful rock walls in the living room and bedroom equipped with candles. The bed was wonderful and each person had their own duvet (cause for some confusion at first during sleep).

The staff, an area that can make or break even the finest of hotels (ever been to one of the ‘mega hotels’ in Las Vegas?) was exemplary in every aspect of their service.

There is little more than I can say; one of finest hotels in which I have ever stayed (and that includes some that are on the ‘top 25 hotels in the world’ lists).

Go there, enjoy, stay a week or so and experience the exceptional friendliness of the Turkish people.

We stayed at the El Vino for 6 nights in April, as part of our three week trip to Turkey. Let me start with our first night that we arrived. It was rather late, and after catching the Havas (the bus from the airport...so worth it!) and then a quick cab to the El Vino, we were pretty tired. Our cab dropped us off at the lower entrance, and as soon as we crossed through the gate into the courtyard, we knew we had entered a little oasis that was going to make our stay that much better. The night person at the front desk was very helpful and quite nice, even though he didn't speak a ton of english. As he helped us to our room (one of the upstairs suites - the chardonnay room - second floor above and looking out onto the pool), he made us feel very welcome at the hotel.

I'll be honest, when we walked into our room, I was a little surprised, the place was HUGE! It was basically a one bedroom apartment, frankly, larger than the one I used to live in here in Vancouver. The bedroom had a large king size (and comfortable) bed, with an closet that you could hang plenty of clothes. There was also a safe in there as well. On the dresser, there was one flat screen LCD. In the living room, there was an eating table, a small fridge/sink/counter, a couch, end tables, an arm chair, two sitting chairs, a coffee table, and a fairly large LCD TV. You get the idea...the place was huge. It really made it feel like we would be staying in a home for the duration of our stay. Off both the bedroom and the living room, there were two doors that opened up to look out over the pool, and beyond that you had a view of Bodrum Castle and the water. It was truly serene.

After a great nights sleep, we woke up to head out for the day. When asking at the office for suggestions, that was when we met Deniz (the Manager) and Pelin. These two amazing individuals truly added another level of hospitality to our stay. They were both so unbelievably helpful and kind. We even ran into Deniz on his day off out taking photos in Gumusluk, and he even helped us with a little direction and guidance there (Thanks again for the photo Deniz!!).

So, lets cut to the chase:
Location - Great. It is about a 5-7 minute walk from the heart of the city. We prefered that as it also meant that it was a ways from the clubs and the noise. While we were there, the City of Bodrum was doing road work during the days on a portion of the road that was on the walk into town, but it was clear that things were wrapping up.

Cleanliness - the place was spotless. We were very impressed with the level of cleanliness.

Noise - We slept like babies while at the El Vino. The only noise you could really hear from our room was (as is typical in all of Turkey) was the call to prayer in the morning.

Comfort - I have a bad back and am picky with mattresses, as is my wife. We both found the bed to be quite comfortable. It was nice to also have a couch to come and relax on at the end of a day.

Service - As I've mentioned, the service was amazing. It happened to be our anniversary one day while we were there. After we returned from the day out in the city, there was some champagne and a fruit basket waiting for us when we got back! Not to mention the towel art and flowers on the bed! :)

Pool - great loungers by the pool, and in that sun, the pool itself felt amazing.

While I really do have to think of things that could have been better, here are a few:
- Wireless internet was a bit touch and go
- The bathroom lighting was a bit dark
- I would have loved some pastries or something like that at breakfast

All in all, a wonderful stay. If we ever find ourselves in Bodrum again, we will definitely be staying at the El Vino!

When our hotel in Selcuk had hot water only intermittently, I emailed Deniz at El Vino to see if the hotel could give us a room a night early. We arrived at 8:30 pm via bus and taxi and were immediately taken to a suite overlooking the pool. Deniz upgraded our room and we spent 4 peaceful nights at El Vino. This was the last stop on a 3 week trip through Turkey and both of us were tired. The hotel was quiet at night, the suite was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and modern. The hotel is an easy walk to the castle on the water. We liked the food so much at the hotel that we ate every meal there. The menu has more European dishes such as pasta with smoked salmon and dill rather than the standard Turkish menu. The desserts were great, especially the chocolate souffle. The staff works very hard to please and the owner was on the premises for our entire stay directing the staff in a subtle manner. There is a small workout room with several pieces of equipment and a hot tub next to the pool. This is a great hotel that has a garden feel to the premises.

I would highly recommend this lovely hotel. The rooms are beautiful, charming, comfortable, quiet. I think it's truly one of best places I have ever stayed. The grounds are a lovely oasis. Breakfast is delicious, served by the pool. The rooms are impeccably clean. The staff is totally helpful, warm and welcoming. The manager Mr. Deniz, is such a warm, wonderful person, and great at his job. Palin his assistant is charming and always helpful. My partner and I had a lovely time at this very special place and would highly recommend it to any kind of travellers. Really a contained paradise. Our thanks and appreciation to all our friends at el vino.

Don't hesitate, this is really great. We stayed 3 nights in a suite in early spring. The location is very good with sweeping views over Bodrum to the sea and the castle but still only 10 minutes walk to the centre.
The service is superb and very thoughtful. The room decor is stylish yet warm and bright and the landscaped surroundings verdant and immaculately kept. The bed and furnishings are comfortable and cosy and also perfectly kept.
Even though the hotel appears to be right next to a major road, it is set sharply downhill from it and amazingly we heard no traffic at all. Our first floor room had a great view over the pool and gardens - it was still too cool for guests to swim much so we had no noise from the pool at all.
We usually never eat at hotel restaurants but we did try this one with our friends. It was first rate and it comes complete with gorgeous views - the food was so good that we dined there a second time. Highly recommended. Breakfast was very good as well, all the usual range you find in Turkey but with extras, and top quality too.
Only suggestions for improvement would be firstly to have a secure server for on-line credit card based bookings (instead of faxes etc). And secondly to add a small cooktop to the kitchenette in the suite - it has a sink, cabinets, fridge, kettle, etc but curiously stops short at cooking equipment. We had the mistaken impression from the photos that the suite had a kitchen and we'd have liked to have cooked for ourselves one night (just as a break from the restaurant routine) but instead we had to go the (very ordinary) waterside eateries instead.

I stayed at the El vino for a couple of nights in early April. I was very satisfied with my visit. It has a great location on a hillside overlooking the city of Bodrum and the Aegean beyond. The hotel is well maintained and the staff is cordial and helpful -- especially the manager Deniz, who goes out of his way to help his guests and make them feel comfortable. El Vino has a good restaurant with excellent views. The food is good but a bit pricey -- and I could have done without the Bobby Vinton music on the radio. The included breakfast is a cut above the normal hotel breakfast buffet. Ask for their good yogurt. My only complaint is that there was no dedicated computer for guests to access the Internet.. Instead you have to use one of the manager's computers, which can be awkward.
