“Perfect setting for a special treat”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We've been visiting this restaurant regularly for some time - mostly for special occasions but also with clients - so have a good idea what's best on the menu. If you can get there at the right time, it's difficult to beat the view at sunset (or even during a storm), especially with a cocktail! The lamb is my favourite though the steaks are generally good too and don't forget to leave room for dessert. The atmosphere all year round is friendly but professional and we've never had any problems getting a lift home if we've gone a little over the top with the wine.

“Fantastic views, but overpriced and average food.”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

We decided to book here on the last night of our holiday as a bit of a treat. Seeing as it's quite far from Gumbet, we had heard that they would pick you up from your hotel if you asked. We tried this - and were given a vague promise to collect us - but lo and behold no car came. We took a taxi up the hill and were immediately struck by the great views across Gumbet and over the sea. Unfortunately, the staff had also ignored our request for a table on the edge of the balcony. This started the evening with a bit of a sour taste! The food was considerably more expensive than places in Gumbet, and wasn't too special. Better food can be had at Jack's or Peter's if you're in Gumbet. Having said that, the chestut and chocolate souffle was really quite good. The staff weren't particularly friendly and we weren't put at ease. If you've got some Lira burning a hole in your pocket, then I'd suggest coming here for the views, otherwise go somewhere else - and spend the difference on parasailing for some great views!

“disappointing - particularly from our experience last year”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

We were in Bodrum town last year and enjoyed it so much that we returned this year for a 2 week holiday in villa rental this time rather than a hotel. Our stay included my husband's birthday and so we decided to return to this restaurant as we had had 2 very good meals there last year. There were 4 of us this year (2 couples). We booked the restaurant beforehand. On arrival we were taken to our table at the front overlooking the Aegean and Gumbet. Fantatic views of course. We asked for a few bottles of wine but none of them were in stock so rather than spend an awful lot on what wine they did have we decided to stick with beers. 2 of the main dishes chosen by us were not available either so we had to go with 2nd choices. One of us chose the claypot casserole as a 2nd choice. This came but the waiter unfortunately broke the pot wrongly and the food was peppered with pieces of clay and was inedible. We complained about this but weren't offered a replacement and, to be honest, the rest of us had almost finished our mains by then anyway. The food was average, nothing as good as last year to be honest. When the bill arrived we were charged for the claypot disaster. We complained but the attitude of the waiters was unbelievable and we asked to see the manager. He duly arrived and agreed to take the cost of the dish off the bill. We had planned to visit again but after our experience decided against. I agree with blueandwhitehoops' review - the restaurant trades on its reputation and views. We will not go again and wouldn't recommend this to anyone sorry. Far better food and more reasonably priced available in the town restaurants.

“Style over substance”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

I think this restaurant trades on its reputation and the view it offers. We found the food quite pricey and quite bland to the taste. I ordered the casserole in a clay pot. I was excited when it came a pot over a flame making a grand entrance to the table - but I was disappointed with the actual taste no flavour whatsoever. My husband ordered the sea bream which was ok but it came with a bit of salad (a lettuce leaf and a cherry tomato) and 3 slices of cold potatoes. The waiters kept hovering which we found a little off putting - but when we tried to pay to go they were nowhere to be seen. It was very expensive and you can eat alot cheaper in town and get better food. I think it relies on the tourists due to its location.

“A great experience”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Recommended by Gary and Rory at the Aegean Gate Hotel (go there!!) we decided to book for dinner. Gary had told us the restaurant had an agreement with the hotel and would send a car for us (no charge!). The car duly arrived and we then enjoyed (me more than my fiancee) a, shall we say, stimulating drive to the restaurant!!
On arrival (delivered straight to {almost through} the door) we were quickly shown to our table, one on the deck overlooking the town of Bodrum and the bay. We arrived just in time for sunset which was very beautiful.
The surroundings were very nice and the service very professional and friendly. Gary told me the owner used to own a restaurant in Brighton, UK!!
Water was immediatley delivered to our table with bread and dips and the menu. A selection of wines were bought to the table for us to select.
Dinner was 3 courses with turkish coffee and was delicious. Service attentive without being overbearing. We went on a Friday evening and there was live background music - not sure if its there every day or just weekends.
The meal was ridicuously cheap, 120 lire for 2 excluding wine. Wine is expensive - between 60 and 120 lire for a bottle of reasonable dry white.
Overall a great experience with the added bonus of another adrenaline generating drive back to the hotel!
