Owner description: The mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic, was constructed in 1944 and sits atop a hill overlooking the city.

The Mausoleum is a huge classical square in a beautiful park with excellent views of Ankara. The Ataturk memorabilia are interesting and the changing of the guards is fun to watch.

For the Anatolian Museum, one can take the bus on Ataturk Blvd. north to the equestrian statue at Ulus, and then walk east up the hill to the museum of Anatolian Culture (half closed in early 2013). From there one can walk back down the hill to the Ulus metro station for the ride out to the Ataturk Mausoleum, which is a walk up the hill from the Tandogan metro station.

There is a shuttle bus for the elderly from the park entry to the mausoleum. Guards may want to inspect your passport and backpack on entry.

Made a quick photo stop of this Mausoleum. The thing is HUGE, you don't realize how big it is until you are actually driving away from it. Worth a photo stop

The Ataturk Mausoleum is beautiful and you can tell that the people of Turkey have a lot of respect for this man. I also found the museum interesting and informative. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a must see. You will not understand Turkey or Ataturk until you view this! Everything has an english translation so there is no fear that you will not understand what is going on.

This is a mausoleum for Ataturk and independence museum. Much of the displays and material centre around Ataturk's leadership in tWorld War I at Canakale/Galipoli and subsequent war with Greece in 1921 and 1922. Building is set in pleasant gardens and there is a couple hundred metres walk to approach. They have probably some of the best public toilets I've seen. Theft also ave a regular changing of the guards which is interesting.
