“Value for money - good management”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2013

I like this hotel very much for the care and attention that the staff provided. The room was clean and comfortable. My first impression was the welcome glass of home-made ginger beer, the staff were so courteous. There is no Internet in the rooms but there is Internet in the restaurant. I will return to Philippines in February but I will surely stay another night/s at this hotel if I have a chance to go to Manila. There were buses and jeepneys to take me to nearby Metro stations.

Room Tip: very noisy at night, try to avoid the rooms facing the street

I have to agree with most of the reviews here that this place really rocks! Prices are low and there are definitely so many nice aspects to a stay here. I stayed in Stone House several times during my stay in Manila and in compare with other places and areas it really offers value for money. The headlines:
- nice rooms, if you want a little more comfort don't take the cheapest room but take the Emerald, which is still very afffordable. It has more walking space in the room also to put your luggage and a better tele.
- tasteful design for the price, modern yet comfortable beds and lighting. the room is not huge but still gives a sensation of space
- great complimentary breakfast for the price, with bottomless coffee or syrups (juice is a big word, but then again in cheaper hotels u never find real juice)
- free use of wifi internet in the restaurant where u can also enjoy live music. you might not always be lucky to find the best artists there but still its live and free and gives such a nice atmosphere

Minor setback from this hotel:
- no complimentary wifi in the room. It is available but at a price like 200 pesos per 24 hours or so, which I found a complete and ridiculous ripoff...for longer periods it gets cheaper but still...rates like that are medieval...it is for that reason that u can see most of the customers just sitting in the resto to use the internet...something to think about maybe for the management?...200 pesos per day for internet use in a hotel in a city environment? hmmm
- due to the live music the front part of the hotel tends to be a bit more noisy, not really bothering me but still wanted to mention it

Amenities are, for example:
- walking distance from the Quezon city South Triangle nightlife district with many comedy bars, clubs and buffet restaurants for the ones who like nightlife and good foods
- one short jeepney-ride from Cubao with Gateway mall, Araneta and many options for local and long distance transports, buses, MRT, LRT
- walking distance from mc do, or from a great Shawarma place on the corner of the street, nearby convenience store, etc.

Altogether a very nice experience and I can recommend it to anyone who likes city life and just comes to spend some days in a city environment with their partner or to have a central point to go places in and around Manila. It should be noted that this place is NOT near the airport and for goin to the airport by taxi in the morning you should reserve a vast amount of time, 2-3 hours, considering traffic problems around Cubao and EDSA avenue ( I almost missed my plane once :) ). Plus you have to be patient finding a cab that does not try to rip you off :) but that is all in the game, welcome to Manila. You will get used to that and then it is still fun!

The staff were polite.
The room was small and not cleanest.
The bathroom was terribly small. No toilet paper, Had to ask!
The lobby was ok but the food was not great, especially the free breakfast.
The picture of the huge TV in the lobby was terrible.
Friends were not able to come up.
The location was seedy.
Although not the hotel's fault the taxi drivers confuse the two E. Rodriguez Sr. and Jr Streets.
I'd recommend for very minimum stay if you have no other choice.

Let me start off by saying that I didn't really like anything in Manila. However the staff at this hotel and the restaurant that is connected to it were fabulous. The rooms were clean and were reasonably priced for what you were provided with.

The man that owns/manages the retaurant was the best! I told him what I wanted to see and he outlined an entire day trip for my boyfriend and I and he included a couple other things that he thought I would also enjoy seeing, he made sure we knew how to get everywhere and get back to this hostel.

We ate a late dinner there also and they had a live band and the place was packed. I think this hostel may be the only thing I enjoyed in Manila.

Very affordable with staff so very accommodating. I would never change it with other hotel. Bar is very okay. Jazz music is a destressor. Location is a big plus. Very near St. Lukes Hospital. Also near in Tomas Morato - nice place. Really a home away from home.

Room Tip: Their breakfast buffet is not that good though.

While I admit booking only through online references, I will NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. My family was staying there because we needed air con for the 10-month old, but when my wife took a picture of the room as a remembrance of her trip. The staff went nuts and insisted she delete the picture immediately. Kind of stupid, if you ask me, since there are pictures all over YouTube of their facility. There are too many good hotels in the area to put up with this kind of nonsense. I called and asked the staff what the problem was, and they just said "security". Like I said, absolutely stupid because of all the pictures on YouTube. The family is checking out in the morning, and will move to a more accommodating hotel. Stupid, stupid, stupid rules...

It took a while to respond to this feedback only to find out that there was a miscommunication. Taking photos was never a problem in our hotel as proven by the photos taken by other travellers. The concern was after checking out customers are no longer required to go back to their room and lock it out from staff due to SECURITY reasons such as vandalism.

Aircondition sucks big time.
Room service as worst as the aircon unit.
Restroom is as old as the aircon.
Stonehouse equates into Stone Age of hotels.
Sogo hotel is a better option
Would not recommend the place to a weary traveller.
Comfort is not at in their definition. Nor is quality customer service.
If you call them to inquire for room reservations you are directed to online booking where you will be charged more for online booking service. Front desk staff are not at all attentive.

Unfortunately, it seems you came at a bad timing. No excuses will be given since I do not fully know the circumstances behind the clients stay. Admittedly, the pass few days have put a strain on everything mechanical and electrical due impending heatwave. It was not only our establishment that experienced aircon failure. Places like cafes and retail store even at greenbelt are sweltering in this heat. It seems budget hotel is not the preference of this client based on history but if customer service is what is in question this needs to be addressed. Your comment though has been noted. thank you.
