It is interesting, but a lack of information about certain parts, and a lot of the area is not maintained but he those responsible so looks very dilapidated and crumbling.

“Great cultural experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2011

I usually go to to Manila to see family and eat. Basically, my schedule consists of taking a shower, being forced to eat breakfast, sitting in traffic, meeting some family, eating...REPEAT until I head back to CA!

This time around my husband was with us who is new to the PI and wanted to see 'cultural' things. Hmmm...this is tricky since my family never took me anywhere cultural other than malls and I have been to so many malls its sickening.

YAY for Fort Santiago which was an eye-opener to the history of the PI. You also get a look at the life of the hero Rizal whose life is chronicled well in the museum dedicated to him. We wandered around for almost two hours. It was a nice, breezy day and there was a lot to see including some cannons, a chapel, a museum and walls of the fort that used to be here.

Don't feel pressured by the people trying to sell you things - just say no thanks and be on your way!

“Several years ago, I did a play at this venue called "Halimaw"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2011

This is a fascinating and haunting attracton with dungeons and garrote. And at 6:00pm the militia fires a gun salute. I performed with the Phil. Experimental Theatre Association in one of their plays. It was an open air auditorium and with the warm climate in the tropics, the evening was just perfect. The backdrop were the rapparts and the ghost of the past who still walked the Spanish fortress may have been entertained by the creativity of that era.

“Beautiful Garden”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2011

Ft. Santiago is an old (16th century) stone fortress.
It has been rebuilt & refurbished over the centuries.
Great place to visit if you are a history buff, or if you would like to just sit back and enjoy the beautiful garden in the center of the facility.
The fee for entry was 75 Pisos.
