Divisoria has been a shopping place for decades for housewives and mothers and bargain hunters. Especially before school openings or near the Christmas season, shoppers from all over the country, from the far-flung provinces and from all parts of Metro-Manila will travel for days or hours just to get to Divisoria, the center for wholesale shopping. Before, it was quite an ordeal since one cannot find a decent parking slot since most parking are on the street with boys asking for parking fees. Today, one can park at 999 basement parking and if you come at 9:00 a.m., the basement is empty. DV as the commoner calls it has now been transformed into a mall destination for many shoppers. There is the famous 168, 888 and 999 which are modern four-storey modern building offering a variety of consumer products, from cosmetics, hair accessories, hardware and kitchen stuff to baby dresses, jeans, leggings, blue jeans and a whole gamut of things. One holiday, a friend and I went to DV and after parking at 999 we sauntered in all the nearby malls...168, Lucky Chinatown, 999. We even walked to Ylaya street, where one will find curtains, clothing materials and shorts and tee's. After three hours, our aching feet told us it is time to go. When we got back the whole basement parking was full and the shoppers have started to come in late morning. For the serious shopper who wants to avoid crowds and the hassles and bustle of crowded malls and streets, you have to go early and leave DV just before lunch.
