Owner description: This is the oldest university in Asia, founded in 1611, and is one of the world’s largest Roman Catholic universities based on enrollment.

Founded in 1611, 9 years before the Pilgrims arrived in the US, the University of Santo Tomas is one of the most highly respected in East Asia.

I visited to view their manuscript collection. They have one of the largest medieval collections outside of N.America & Europe. The staff there was very friendly & accommodating.

Went here to study fine arts. Learn a lot and even about the culture and the arts. History is a great teacher.

Enjoy the shade as you stroll along its tree-lined pavements. Just to stand in front of the University's Main building which houses its Museum of Arts and Sciences--- makes up for a rewarding afternoon downtime in Espanya Avenue.

Just a heads up, try not to get caught in the heavy rains from June to somewhere like October because the floods build up really fast along the Avenue swallowing parts of the University grounds

I've heard of UST since grade school during History classes, and when i finally had the chance (i stayed in one of the boarding houses surrounding UST during my review for Chemistry Licensure Exam), it was one unforgettable afternoon stroll. everything about UST is just so dramatic. There's a walkway lined with flowers, the green field, the old (seemingly haunted) buildings, and the chapel (which is quite big for a chapel) is a perfect place to sentiment. It's a university so expect students all around the campus. But still it's great to visit one of the Philippine's heritage sites, in fact, the Oldest University in the country (300+ years and counting! wow!)

one tip: bring your ID! :-)
