Had a trip around intramuros in a tricycle. It was a great experience. If you are in Manila, a must place to visit to see one of the beautiful place still maintain in that 18th century feeling.

This part of Manila is different from rest of Manila. There is a strong influence of Spanish culture in architecture and food. I went on a bambike tour for this one and the guide was so helpful and informative about the culture tradition and history behind Intramuros. Would definitely recommend this place for someone looking to visit some attractions in Manila.
I did not like Manila. It is big, dirty, messy and noisy but, Intramuros was the most interesting place I visited there.
There is a large historical are which starts at City Hall, Manila, includes the Bonifacio Monument, and then underpasses to cross the road over to Intramuros.
There is a lot to see and a whole day is never enough. You can walk the walls and imagine hundreds of soldiers defending the walled city so many times since it's creation.
You can see the various gateways into the walled city and everywhere, there are notices giving historical information on the part wher you are standing.
You can see the various building that still remain testifying to their strength. It includes barracks, storehouses and churches.
There are churches to visit which house museums and , of course, Manila Cathedral.
Close by, is Fort Santiago which was the military heart of the walled city.
You can see the various terraces and a visit to the Jose Rizal museums are a must.
Some will say get out of hot, humid, dusty, noisy Manila as soon as you can but this is very shortsighted. If you have any interest in History and Culture, this area is a must see!
Most of the neighborhood is not touristy and has low pedestrian traffic. From a safety perspective, we felt a bit exposed a number of times where we found ourselves alone on a back street as we were trying to do a route for a walking tour we found online.
I did a bike tour in Intramuros and we loved our experience.
The place is filled with history and helps a lot to understand the Philippines of today. I think of you visit Manila you have to go to Intramuros. Get a good guide for the explanations.
Two companies that we used that were really good was Bambike Tours and Manila for a Day. Highly recommended.
