Owner description: Intramuros, "The Walled City," is the oldest district in Manila. This is what remains of the fortified city, which was the seat of power during Spanish Colonial times (1521-1898).

Visiting intramuros is like a trip down memory lane, a walk through history. It gives you a glimpse of the old Manila. Nowadays, it is famous as a tourist attraction where you grt a good sense of history from the spanish era. You'll find the old governors palace here as well as the Manila Cathedral. It is also a busy educational center having several colleges and universities in the area. Not only that but an area of commerce with many business all over such as restaurants and offices. Theres a golf course for the sports enthusiasts and at night it transform into an area of nightlife with restaurants/bars. You can get here from any point of manila, ride a jeep or even hire a horse carriage to tour you around this walled city. be prepared to do alot of walking when youre here as you would rather walk from one site to the next as traffc is terrible here.

Intramuros includes an old spanish fort, Fort Santiago, and grounds. Not busy and reasonble entry fee. Some people will offer you a guided tour for a price, but I chose to walk the grounds. This was also used as a prisoner camp during the Japanese occupation in WW 2. Nice tourist attraction.

This is the only part of old Manila left - good to see the old architecture and cobbled streets. There are "informal settlers" here too so it is not all historical. It has a lot of potential, but needs more investment in infrastructure...

Spanish influenced architecture, travel on tricycle and then a Jeepney ! Its an experience. Street food is in abundance which coupled with the friendliest race on earth makes for a wonderful holiday.

We did a horse and carriage ride around the area and it is the loveliest part of Manila. The old architecture. Proud displays of history (even if it meant a building showing signs of bombing), nice greenery with a golf course going through the area. The traffic here did not give me as many heart attacks.
