Owner description: Intramuros, "The Walled City," is the oldest district in Manila. This is what remains of the fortified city, which was the seat of power during Spanish Colonial times (1521-1898).

A very interesting area of Manila with alot of history to take in.Definetly would recommend taking a peddicab for going around the area and save the shoe leather.Make sure you pre negotiate with the driver as the price will very with the amount of time you take at each location along the way.Expect to spend a couple of hours if you want to spend a little time at each interesting location.

“Pleasant but becoming run down”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Pleasant and interesting place to wander around at the weekend. Visited a museum there and generally liked exploring around all the streets. When I visited the Basilica was closed which was a great shame but it is an interesting building to take a look at. Watch out for the vendors selling tours and trips on pony & trap. The ponies look very neglected and unwell. Quite upsetting really - do not use them and encourage this trade!

“I wish for its Restoration”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

This place is definitely one of the gems of Philippine Heritage. It says a lot about the history and culture of the Philippine and the struggles and oppressions, if you may, during the Spanish occupation. I really do wish that the government of the Philippines to do something about this as it seems to be relatively deteriorating and make it much pedestrian and safe for tourists and locals a like. There are some streets that seem to be sketchy and not-so safe and this of course will make some tourists very guarded rather than enjoying the historical offering of this place. Hope they do something about this.

Overall this is still very much recommended especially for history buffs!
